    page.php?id=123
and makes a permalink to it like
    page/123/
    that will never change.

vbseo also incorporates it on pagination and showpost style urls (along with all the others) that are more difficult, and more important, to point at the core resource.

    Something like.

    www.books.com/f-fiction/fantasy/post-about-a-book-12344
Barnes*&*Noble - Books, Textbooks, eBooks, Toys, Games, DVDs and More

Sorry, I too don't exatly understand what you're asking here.

You can use variables to make urls, such as [forum_id] [forum_name] and so forth based on the title of the forum, and removed any stop words (like a, as, of, etc) if desired.
A manual slug can also be defined if necessary.

You can use the [forum_path] variable to contain the full nest of yor forum setup
.com/grand-parent/parent/child/thread/ style urls if you wish, but note that the further/deeper you go, the less it ranks. Google likes items closer to root as more important items, so I would not recommend this set up if you use a lot of sub forums.

    Does that answer your question?

This site must be running an affiliate script because I typed in "www.books.com/..." on all of the four examples. Hover over them to see the original URL that I typed in.

No, we do not run any affiliate scripts on our forum.

What you are seeing is an actual vbseo feature which grabs the title of urls (optionally) to display as the linked text. books.com is owned by barnes and noble.
