    Regarding mod_rewrite requirement

Our server unfortunately doesn't support mod_rewrite but we do have ISAPI Rewrite 2.x installed on the server. Is this a solution as a substitute therefor? Thanks

thanks for the quick answer mike, is there any difference in performance or features if ISAPI rewrite is used in place of mod_rewrite? What about installation / configuration is setting up to use ISAPI? Is is simply a setting in admincp to use one or the other, or an entry in cfg file?

They will all have the same features. Only thing that is different is the htaccess that you will upload.

Long term you should consider making the move to a Linux based operating system.

    Care to explain why?

I've been on Windows Servers for 7 years now and I wouldn't even think about going back to Linux.

We tested on both linux and windows. We found windows servers to be less realible for this with the browser closing and kicking users out. Just what we found in our tests

this time when we install everythign it will be on a linux box

Browsers closing and kicking people out?

There is no way this could be caused by a web server, any web server including Windows or Linux, unless you are running scripts that are not sending the correct headers or are misconfigured.

I have Firefox lockup on many sites and investigating the problem always, and I mean always came out to be a script running on the server. Most of the time it an incorrectly nested javascript or java applet.

Weird it only happens on the windows hosted server and vbSEO installed

Someone said it might be the rewrite mod and I have not checked into that. We had to remove vbSEO and everything is working fine

Just about security I would never use a windows server as a http server, ok they do some security enhancements with the time but ... did you remember blaster ? mydoom ? etc etc... Blue screens ? TCPIP.SYS limited ? You can always fear and expect something huge in windows...

This is all old news. You should really do more research before you post about exploits from a year ago and more.

I was running Windows Servers through all them.

If you did do any research you would know that Apache has more vulnerabilities patched then IIS and that Linux as a whole had more than Windows.

Please do some research before you spout off garbage.

BotMan, instead of shutting it off why not troubleshoot the problem?
I have vbseo with HeliconTech rewrite module v.3 running without problems. It ran with v.2 also and I did have a problem when I upgraded to v.3, but, it was a problem with v.2 and v.3 conflicting. I shutoff v.2 compatibility in the sites .htaccess file and the problem was corrected. After I updated the rewrite rules for my other sites to v.3 I uninstalled v.2.
If you want to troubleshoot it let me know.
