    Question

    Hello,

I own a computer site and I'm looking at the possibility of getting vBSEO.

    My site's HERE.

    ===========

I'm running vB 3.7.0 BETA 4, is it best to wait until 3.7 goes GOLD, or purchase now?

Is there an online manual explaining vBSEO, such as installing it ect.?

How hard is it too install and get going?

    Regards Jason

Installation is pretty straightforward. You can find some information here in our online copy of the readme:
    vBSEO 3.1.0 Readme File

While we are running vBSEO successfully with vBulletin 3.7, as a new customer it's probably in your best interest to wait until vBulletin goes GOLD with 3.7, and vBSEO releases an official compatibility update.

We have a demo available where you can check out some of the features of our control panel:
    http://www.vbseo.com/demo/

Once you get vBSEO-enabled, our vBSEO Total Support Team will be standing by to assist you including answering any questions you may have on how to configure the different vBSEO options available.

    Sounds great Jason.

By the way, another option you might consider *if* you have a test copy of your board in place as well, you could get your copy of vBSEO now and install it on the test board to get directly familiar with it prior to official launch, which will be later this year depending on vBulletin's release date.

    Hell Joe,

I'm on a shared hosting account, is that enough for vBSEO?

I've heard both success and failure stories about this -- but why should I purchase it? vB comes SEO straight out of the box.

Also, I've seen these FREE hacks on vB --- they do the same that vBSEO does, so why should I spend my money on vBSEO?

    Zoints SEO
    Replace URL's With Page Title
vRewrite - SEOed URLs for vBulletin (if you don't use Zoints SEO and insist on mod_rewrite, but you really don't need this)
    vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator v.2.0

So what can vBSEO offer -- that them above FREE hacks can't ?

    Regards Jason

How is your forum running now on shared hosting Jason? Is the performance acceptable? If so, then you should expect vBSEO to also perform well.

In general, performance issues occur on servers that are already over taxed, in terms of server resources.

If for any reason you cannot get vBSEO to run successfully and do not want to move to another hosting provider, you are eligible for a full refund. Our only criteria is that you must allow the vBSEO Total Support Team an opportunity to troubleshoot your installation.

In consideration of free *hacks*, I would caution that SEO is one of the *most important* aspects for success with your forum.

I am familiar with the hacks you mention, and I can assure you that your best bet is to choose the all-in-one, proven solution, backed by a full-time vBSEO Total Support Team, constantly developed and advanced, always ensured to be compatible, and in successful use by thousands of vBulletin forum admins.

With the exception of the vBSEO Sitemap 2.1, which is *complimentary* and design to be used *with vBSEO* by our team... absolutely no *hack* available even compares to vBSEO. We have thousands of happy customers with the increased traffic levels to prove that.

Contrary to what you have read, vBulletin is NOT SEO-ed out of the box. While it is certainly the best forum software on the planet right now, there is a big difference between being able to have a search engine crawl a site, and the site being fully optimized.

Here is some food for thought on one of the most important SEO aspects that vBSEO provides, regarding link consistency and consensus. As with our many other SEO features, this is not available without vBSEO:
Pin the Tail on the SEO Donkey (with Link Consensus)!

Yes, my site is running completely fine now.

Although, when I start to get more visitors, I'll be forced to upgrade the server.

I will be purchasing vBSEO when 3.7 goes GOLD.

But, I read on the TAZ (The Admin Zone) as there is discussion about vBSEO -- and most of them said it's not worth the money.

    Here are some quotes:

There's no reason whatsoever to rewrite URLs these days. This is a 2004 concept that it seems some people just can't let go.
No. It most definitely will not get your pages indexed any more quickly. It will create so-called "search engine friendly URLs" but that isn't going to get you any higher in the search results. And for that matter, if you insist on so-called search engine friendly URLs, there are several free vBulletin add-ons that will do just that.
You don't need vBSEO to do any of those things. First of all, the entire issue of duplicate content is overblown - you don't get penalized for duplicate content - all that happens is one copy will be indexed and any others ignored. If you want to ensure that a specific version of duplicate content is indexed, follow Google's instructions to have search engine's ignore the others. The easiest way to do this is to use the robots.txt file. And that certainly doesn't cost you $150 USD.

As for "other tools to properly SEO your site", there is nothing, repeat nothing useful that vBSEO offers that cannot be done with a few simple FREE add-ons from vBulletin.org.
Nonsense. What's efficient about installing a $150 add-on that does a whole lot of things you don't need to remove duplicate URLs when a few simple lines in your robots.txt file will do all that's necessary?
No. Absolutely false. Not even close. There is NO Google duplicate content penalty. There never has been a duplicate content penalty. There is NO duplicate content penalty for any other search engine. The worst that can happen with duplicate content is that you get one page indexed insteead of another. And you get to choose which page is indexed by how you construct your robots.txt file. That's precisely what Google itself tells webmasters to do.
Waste of your money is what you get, along with incessant misinformnation in infommercials like yours.
There all quotes from a thread about vBSEO.

    Regards Jason

    sounds like Minstrel.

    ignore him.

he's a self-proclaimed seo know it all who in reality doesn't know a thing.

    vbseo works.

    i wouldn't have 5 licenses if it didn't.

...or my current house if you want to get technical

    before vbseo: $15-20 a day
after vbseo, and a year and a half of new traffic, members, posts: $125-$150 a day

i'd say it was well worth the 150 bucks.

    Thumbs up

It's much like Republicans and Democrats in American politics. There always seems to have to be at least "2 different schools of thought", even when an issue is very straightforward with an obvious solution.

vBSEO is one of those issues that no one should be debating! It works.

Fortunately, if you now plan to purchase vBSEO, then you have chosen very wisely. And, I feel justified in telling you that if you find anti-vBSEO information there, it's not coming from authoritative sources.

We expect TAZ themselves to eventually install vBSEO, as they had intended to do so in the past, but delayed it due to some administrative barriers that occurred at the time. It will certainly help them accelerate their success, and they would be joining thousands of other vBSEO enabled forums already reaping the rewards.

There's no reason whatsoever to rewrite URLs these days. This is a 2004 concept that it seems some people just can't let go.
Absolutely Incorrect. The search engines themselves will often tell you rewriting is beneficial!

No. It most definitely will not get your pages indexed any more quickly. It will create so-called "search engine friendly URLs" but that isn't going to get you any higher in the search results.
If SEO helps improve crawling/indexing/ranking, and SEF URLs (with link consistency and consensus) is a positive SEO factor, then it is most certainly going to help.
    • Does SEO help improve crawling/indexing/ranking? Yes.
    • Are SEF URLs with link consistency and consensus positive SEO factors? Yes.
    • Will vBSEO help improve your search engine positioning? Absolutely Yes.

    Can't argue with that Joe

I will be purchasing vBSEO -- just as soon as 3.7 goes GOLD -- which is soon, as BETA 5 is hoped to be the last BETA before release candidates.

I think I'm going to enjoy myself here.

    Regards Jason

    Hello Joe,

I just have forums at the moment, but once 3.7 goes GOLD -- I plan on adding more, such as an homepage, downloads page ect.... This will be done by Conttenteller, successor of Storyteller.

Will vBSEO affect this in anyway?

Also, this is my current .htaccess file:
