    Thumbs up Pre Questions About Efficiency

    I just recently moved our forum directory from "forums.oursite.com" to "oursite.com/forum" to bring everything to the top level. Our page ranks were:

    forums.oursite.com = page rank of 3
    oursite.com = page rank of 2

    My first question is was this a smart move on my part. Though I am taking a step backwards (pagerank wise), from what I understand long term this is a better way to go?

    2nd question is this, our forums have been around since basically jan 1 of this year (so 7.5 months), and we now have 430+ members and maybe a month ago we started getting more traffic in via search engines. My question is how will VBSEO help us attain even higher page ranks than before even with the move to a new directory? (basically how is VBSEO going to make things happen for us?! )

    Lastly, I tested out our server, and we are good to go on both installs (Zend or Ioncube), I want to make sure that if I end up buying VBSEO that I should use the Zend version (which is what it tells me to use). Also, is it compatible with the latest version of VB (3.5.4)?? Will I be able to upgrade VB without fear of messing up VBSEO or will I have to reinstall everything?

    Thanks alot in advance for taking the time to get these questions answered. Apparently you guys have outstanding customer service so I am excited to get started (once I get sold on spending $150 ).

    Best Regards,

    1- Good move. The only "logical" reason to use a subdomain, is to use a seperate server. You can point a.site.com to a different server than site.com resides on.

    2- to describe what it does would take me hours. Have you played with the demo? http://www.vbseo.com/demo
    For real life example, see my sig. This software done wonders for me in a matter of a month.

    3- vbseo supports both zend and ioncube. I personally run ioncube. zend is fine too. basically, pick one. they are nearly indentical at this point.
    vbseo 3.0.0 RC3 works on both vB 3.5.4 as well as the latest vB 3.6 Beta's and release candidates. version 3.0.0 RC3 is available via special request, or you can use the old stable version, 2.4.5, and upgrade later. the upgrade process is a sinch. There are built in XML export/import functions for all yoru settings. So when it's time to upgrade, export, save it. upgrade, import save it. done.

    it's well worth the money. you won't regret it.

    Just a small correction to point #3, vBSEO 3.0.0 RC3 is available in the normal Downloads area for vBSEO Owners, no need for a special request.

    Sounds good. Hey what version of this should I install if I have VB 3.5.4 ??

    Should I go for VB SEO 3.0.0 RC3 or is that for the new VB 6 beta?

    EDIT: Answered my own question, going for RC3

    Got it installed and running! Have 1 quick question. Would you guys recommend Step #4?

    D. Optional Step - If you would like to set up your URLs using the interface (vbseocp.php):
    1. CHMOD 666 the 'vB-root/includes/config_vbseo.php' file
    2. Using your browser, visit: http://www.yoursite.com/vB-root/vbseocp.php
    3. For security purposes CHMOD 644 back your 'config_vbseo.php' file after configuring vBSEO
    Will this improve performance?

    It has no effect on performance. It's just there for you to use a web interface to edit settings instead of editing the config PHP file by hand.

    Excellent!

    Does VBSEO Google + Yahoo Sitemap generator work with VBSEO 3.0.0 RC3?

    Or more importantly, when I do step C (below), can I put this code anywhere in my .htaccess file? Basically, I dont want to screw up the one that I installed with VBSEO.

    C. Open your 'vbroot/.htaccess' file and enter the following code:

    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^(sitemap.*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

    Thanks in advance!!

    I think you mean RC3 instead of SE3.

    Here's the vBSEO Sitemap you need to use with it: vBSEO v.3.0.0 Release Candidate 3 Released!

    And you shouldn't need to modify the .htaccess, since vBSEO's .htaccess file already has the sitemap rewrites included.
