    My situation...

    Hello,

I have a question regarding my situation.

I am running vBulletin 3.0.8 and wanting to ugprade to 3.5.4.

I was one of the free beta testers way back when and use vBSEO 2.0(RC6).

If I were to upgrade to 3.5.4, would there be any problems with the database? What would the downsides be? I assume the links would go back to how they originally were by default with a clean install of vbulletin (obviously).

But my real question is that would purchasing a new copy of the newest vbseo cause any interference with the search engine crawlers?

    Thanks

I would have to say there would be no problems.. I was one of the very early beta testers and have had no issues when upgrading.

In saying that, if you forget to back up your vBSEO settings and end up creating new link setups, those new links will have to be re-indexed.

What if I upgrade without purchasing vbseo for a few months... Would there be any penalties with search engines. What would the disadvantages of waiting be?

    Thanks

The feature improvements and bug fixes that have taken place since the beta testing days are dramatic.

You would be best advised to upgrade to 2.4.5.

What if I don't decide to upgrade? Are there any redirects offered that I could use? Say someone has linked to one of my current clean URL posts I have now in another forum. Then they click it after I upgraded to my 3.5.4 forum without vbSEO installed. Would they get a 404 or some sort of redirect?

There are .htaccess rules you can use to direct vBSEO'd thread URLs to the equivalent vBulletin standard URL.

Can you point me towards or explain to me how to do this?

    Thanks

Assuming you were using the default thread URL format in vBSEO, this should do it. Adjust the forums path as needed:

    RewriteRule ^[^/]+/([0-9]+)-.+.html$ /forums/showthread.php?t=$1 [L,R=301]

Thank you Keith I appreciate it.

    I'm in a bit of a crisis.

I like vbSEO but not sure if I can afford it at the moment. I am going to upgrade to 3.5.4 (from 3.0.8) tonight no what matter what. So could you tell me what I can expect with my indexed pages with google, especially with this htaccess modifcation?

I'm very lost in all of this, hearing good and bad things regarding vbSEO. But all that aside, the point is that I have already had it install for a few months now and have so many indexed pages.

What would be the wisest decision? Would it be ok to purchase this script down the road? What would the consequences be, if any?

    Thanks

    Hi,

You own your tester's license and are entitled to one year upgrades with it...

Our records indicate that this one year period expires in Aug 2006 for your site. So there's no need to buy vBSEO or even pay the upgrade fee ($35) to get the latest version of the software until then.

vBSEO is compatible with both, vB 3.0.x and vB3.5.x therefore the upgrade should go smoothly.

Feel free to download the latest version of the software anytime from http://www.vbseo.com/downloads/

    Cheers!
