Exclamation Migrating to vB from phpBB3 - Some questions regarding vBSEO

    Hello,

I have a phpBB3 forum which I want to convert ti vBulletin 3.8.x Also, I want to install vBSEO 3.5 for it.

Now here is my threads and forums url structure:

    Threads:

    www.myforum.com/topic-title-txxx.html

    Forums:

    www.myforum.com/forum-title.html

Is it possible to get the same structure?

    Thanks.

    hi John,

Yes it is fully possible to mimic the same URL structure with vBSEO as well as create an infinite number of other structures, we can help you with this once you have purchased a new licence.

Alternatively if you want to change the format the migration will be the best time and using our Impex 404/301 redirect tool we can make sure that all of the old URL's are redirected to the new one.

So basically it is your choice, you can keep them the same or you can change them, either way vBSEO will help.

    Thanks for the reply.

I actually forgot this. During the conversion from phpBB to vB, does the vB take the exact thread ids? I mean there might be threads deleted between t1 and t9 (for example say t3 and t4 don't exist), will the vB create the t5 thread as t5 or t3 ?

If this is the case then I will have to go for 301 redirection to new urls?

    Hi,

That is correct if there are any deleted threads then the ID's will all be different. In this case you will have to use the 301 redirect tool and pick a more suitable URL structure. Again once you have purchased that licence we can help you with the rewrite rules required for redirecting the threads.

Please note though unless you keep the forum format the same you will have to manually redirect each forum as there is no forumID in your URL's

    Thanks Ceri, that was helpful.

I don't mind about getting the new urls for forums but threads.

    Thanks again

Also, since you're going to be going under the re-indexing process anyway since id's will change, if you want to use a different url format, now is the time to do so.
