...And it really only took 5 minutes.

In that time my entire forum immediately switched to search engine friendly URL's.

One Caveat, I've seen a few people complaining about installing this wrong. It really is easy, just remember to run the test.php file first, to make sure you install the correct version and it will work on your hosting.

Then carefully follow the readme file making sure to upload the files to the proper place in the proper mode.

I read in some forums that installing vbseo modify vbulletin code. Is it true? If that's the case, every time I upgrade to vbulletin, I need to change the code affected by vbseo?

No - we use the plugin system. No vBulletin code modifications are required.
