    Greek Forum

    Hi.

    I run a greek forum in iso-8859-7

I did some reading and could not make safe conclusions on what is best for me. As I understand I cannot use greek letters in urls. Will converting to UTF-8 be the solution? I have tried to do that in the past but as the forum is big, I didn't succeed. So I would really like to avoid that...

This rather leaves me with two choices (if above assumption is correct)

    1. Convert Greek characters to English characters
    2. Just use ids in urls

I would prefer the second solution, but I'm not sure if I will get the same seo results.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I purchase.

    Thank you.

    Hello ,

You can still continue using ISO-8859-7. vBSEO offers character replacement option. You can check it on my personal site Depkac . As you can see non english characters within urls are replaced with English version.

As I said in my first post, I know this is possible. What I need too know is that, if I don't like this feature and decide to use just id's in the URLs will this have any impact in seo efficiency?

    Hi Inforbeto,

Having just ID's is going to reduce the keyword in the URL, there is no indication what weight search engines put on keywords in the URL's themselves but it is definitely a factor using just ID's would lose this completely. Your best option and one that is well supported is to just use the character replacement.
