Hello all, Please indulge me Finally, how can you justify the cost (I know it takes a lot of work and mystery out of SEO for many) when you look at a site like vbulletin-faq.com that espouses "doing it yourself" with some minor tweaks and quality backlinks and they have obtained a Google PR6 and nearly 13,000 pages indexed in less than 6 months? Makes me think their advice is the right advice when they say do it yourself and save $150. Look forward to the informative responses...not sales pitches |

I am not a staff member (even though the icons may fool you, I assure you I am not paid for saying any of this). PageRank. Pagerank deals with linking more than on-page SEO. Read this for more info: Pagerank Explained Correctly with Examples vBSEO won't help you much with page rank, as vbseo deals more with on-page and on-site, not the on-web aspects of SEO. Pages archived: it works, and i'm living proof. I went from 15,000 to well over a million SERP's in just over a month. yes, over a million. and i assure you that vbfaq gets more traffic than i do. 13k? 6 months? pashaw! lol Results 1 - 10 of about 1,290,000 from hondaswap.com site:hondaswap.com - Google Search There was a time a few months back when Google was screwed up, and a lot of people tossed vbseo as they thought it wasn't doing anything for them, when in reality, it was google who was screwed up. I can name a handful of members who have come back to it and are kicking themseleves in the butt for tossing it in the first place. Can you do it yourself? sure. but there is almost a YEAR of development by FIVE people behind vbseo. if you have 5 years of full-time efforts to put towards your SEO, go for it. for me, 150 bucks is a LOT less money than 5 years of my salary :P click the link in my sig to the hondaswap vbseo log. there's some junk/ranting in the beginning..... but as it goes on, you'll see some pretty pictures. and my $10/days have become $130 days. vbseo paid for itself yesterday. quite a small investment in my opinion. |

How long did you have it installed smack? As you know, with SEO there are many/many factors that can cause slow/fast or good/bad results. (In the world of the search engines) one thing is very important is that when you make a change, you have to be very patient and wait for it to take effect. Issues such as sandboxing could cause a signficant delay for your site to start getting better results. If your site is new or you changed anything (besides adding vBSEO) you could be impacted by that. Brian mentioned Google. The impact of the BigDaddy update was felt all across the Web with both forums and regular sites. Basically, Google's new ranking algorithms left a lot to be desired. They've been tweaking it ever since to improve the quality of their SERPs and get deserved content providers (like forums) back into more reasonable positions. vBSEO does actually help with Google PageRank very significantly. It gets rid of PageRank leak by removing duplicate content and ensuring that only 1 URL is provided for every page of content you have on your forum. In this way, the PageRank that is passed to each of your pages is maximized. In general, you will find that vBSEO-enabled forums have much higher PR spread throughout their forums than any standard vBulletin installations. This applies to all sub-forum and thread pages. Just take a look at our site's forums and threads that were created a few months ago to see the impact. FYI Remember that visible PR in the Google toolbar is only updated every 3 months or so. So, even though you don't see it in the toolbar, your vBSEO enabled forum will be constantly building and improving PR. Keep in mind, that PageRank is not the be-all and end-all that is used to be. Google's ranking algorithms have changed and PR's impact has started to be less favored compared to other factors (relevant inbound/outbound linking a key change). However, PR still plays an important role in determining the crawling priority for your forum, so it's still good to have your PR maximized. Regarding cost, Brian is exactly right. vBSEO is a complete SEO solution installed in about 5 minutes. Compare that with the time/cost/extreme effort required to try to duplicate everything vBSEO does. Remember, there are other things you can do to improve your SEO. Building relevant inbound links to your forum is one. vbulletin-faq.com's success is largely due to this. *** Remember - these two things are not mutually exclusive. You should do BOTH. In fact, vbulletin-faq.com would do even better if they vBSEO-enabled the forum. ***

Thanks for the replies. I had vbseo installed from October to June, so it was there quite awhile. I don't use my site for "onsite" advertising such as ads and whatnot so all that matters to me is quality traffic that will buy from me...and using adwords and google analytics seems to work fine. I'm still thinking about it...but have about decided that I will not give it serious thought until I can purchase a branding free version.
