few questions

I am using vb3.5
my host says that rewrite_mod is enabled but how can I be sure?
and do I need to have this module enabled in order for SEO to work?
and how many spiders will this script bring to my forums daily?

Re: few questions

If you host informs you that mod_rewrite is installed on your server, you should be ok to install. This is a requirement to run vBSEO.

The number of spiders that visit your website on a daily basis is variable.

Re: few questions

Hello Snitz, welcome to the boards

You can do a simple test to check if mod_rewrite is working on your server:

Create (or modify your existing) .htaccess by adding the following rules:
Quote:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(hello/)$ http://www.google.com [L]
Alternatively, upload the attached file (in ASCII mode) to your server.

Using your browser, visit 'http://www.yoursite.com/hello'. You should get redirected to google.

If the above doesn't work, please let us know so that we can contact your hosting company to find out how we can get you running asap.

Cheers

Re: few questions

when I uploaded the .htaccess file, it gave me this

Code:
SORRY, there is an "500 Internal Server Error" !

Your browser sent a request that this server could not handle.

The request could not be executed/handled by the server due to malformed syntax or internal configuration.
The client should not repeat the request without modifications.
even though in phpinfo page, it says that mod_rewrite is among the loaded modules...
I have contacted my host several times now!

Re: few questions

Hi,

please ensure that you uploaded .htaccess in ASCII mode. Perhaps that is the reason.

Re: few questions

Tell me that I should download and install the ionCube Encoded version of the software. I'd buy it today, but I want to wait to make sure it'll work on my site. I've had mixed success with using modwritten aps before (though most of them worked).
