Do i need an independent URL?

Ok so here's my question- i have a lifestyle website im building and would like a forum component to compliment it. Should i purchase an independent domin name for the forum or have it as just one section of my websites?? Since spiders (I think)check only the 1st page - woud it benefit me to have my forum on its own domain?

I would go with same domain name. You can create 2 different sitemaps , one for your homepage , one for your forum which will not have negative impact on your SE rankings. Google and other Search Engines are clever and they know how to index sites who have different sections.
