Convert SMF to vBulletin with same url

Hello

We have a forum ( Företagande.se - Forum | Starta eget och Driva eget företag - Index ) and has decided to replace our forum platform from SMF to vBulletin.

But we need the same urls, alternatively redirect all of them because we do not want to lose the indexation of the Forum. (We made that mistake a few years ago when we switched from PhpBB and first now we are starting to see that Google is indexing it again..)

What are the options for solving this?
Do you have an idea or maybe even a program that can fix this?
We are of course willing to pay for such a job.

And naturally we want SEF url on the new forum.

Regards
Patrik

Your forum urls are setup up following way:
Företagande.se - Försäljning och Marknadsföring
yourdomain.com/forum/main-category/forum-name.html

VBSEO will be easily able to do this.

Infact even your showthread urls (vbulletin reference for topic is showthread) can be given a 301 redirect to new urls or you can have a setup to use old urls.

Thanks for a quick answer!

We changed some of the url but the threads don't have SEF.
Example: Företagande.se - Design av annons i t.ex i en tidning?

Is it still possible?

No,
since using Impex (vb's convertor) will create new ID's, old thread ID's will not match vb thread ID's unless you NEVER and I mean NEVER deleted a single post, thread, category, user, etc etc. One hole, and your entire system is off from that point on.

Since you're going to get re-indexed anyway, I'd still recommend doing it. Expect a slow month, but afterwards, hang on for the vbseo ride

Sure, you can easily use vbseo's custom redirects in the portal to point old pages to new pages.

Also, a good 404 page (also easily done with vbseo) can keep your people on your site.

Absouletly perfect, missed this part.
They can have same forum urls but not showthread urls.. however, they can manually re-direct some of the best threads for a week or two.

hello,
I have similiar problem - I have Forum Mieszka?ców i sympatyków Legnicka Park Popowice - Indeks board on standard SMF engine. Now I'd like to switch to the vB and vBSEO.
How long does it take for google to get everything indexed and when could I see benefits?

Thanks and regards,
YacentY

Google's index gets updated over time. Usually want you will find is a lot of re-crawling in the first week when Googlebot discovers all of your new URLs from vBSEO, and via the sitemap notification.

It will build over time. The solution of identifying your top visited pages and manually redirecting them is a good suggestion.

Because you are moving from one system to another there will be a state of flux where your traffic may drop temporarily. Google will have to re-find all of your content.

In the long run this is the right move for you since vBulletin + vBSEO is the most optimization solution available to forum owners.

Depends on a few factors such as your content, niche and most importantly how many linkbacks you've got.

If you're already ranking good with a lot of quality back links then you can except re-indexing to start immediately and to start showing up in SERP's within a week or two.

Don't forget to make a custom 404 error page that informs users of your new more friendly and stable site navigation its not only good for the users but also good for the spiders rather than getting generic error pages. Be sure it has links to your forums and other sections of the site for the most benefit
