Can vbseo help me correct these things?

I'm considering purchasing vbseo, but I would first like to find out if vbseo would help me with some things.

I recently discovered that Google now has 4 listings of my site when I search under my domain.

The following pages are being listed with similar titles and descriptions.

I'd like to only be listed twice, like this.

    My Site Title
    Description of my Site
    www.mydomain.com
    Sitelinks

    My Forum
    Description of My Forum
    www.mydomain.com/forums

Does vbseo make accomplishing this much easier?

My site has been around for a few years and I've changed the cms system several times. There are a ton of outdated links for my site out there. Does vbseo help out at all with the process of identifying and removing these bad links? I've recently starting sending removal requests via the Google Webmasters tool, but I'm not even sure I'm requesting removal correctly.

    How good is your support?

Do you help out with these types of issues or do you simply install the software?

    Thank you for your time.

    Hello ,

vBSEO handles correction for multiple entry points to index page.
vBSEO doesn't identify 404 links however vBSEO have 404 page controls. Our support is extremely good but i am a staff member. You can check our forums to see our users feedback about our support.
vBSEO installation is pretty easy , it takes around 5 minutes.

Can you please elaborate on this? How exactly does that work? Does that mean that I can manipulate something in the CP so that I only show up twice in search engines under the CMS homepage and the forum? I want both pages to have different titles and different descriptions.

vBSEO redirects index.php , forum.php to your main domain ( this requires enabling a setting and defining script name )
Titles of that page are not handled by vBSEO. They are handled by the names you define to your CMS homepage and Forum homepage.

The problem I'm encountering is that in Vbulletin 4.0, the title of the CMS homepage and the Forum are exactly the same. The forum name is shared by the CMS title. I'm not able to make them independent of one another.

    Can vbseo help correct this?

Have you tried editing the CMS home page? That's where that page's title is defined in vBulletin.

(Click the little pencil next to the page title. Look for "HTML <title> Tag".)

    Yes, I have done that.

    The CMS homepage is www.mydomain/forums/index.php

In google search it comes up as: Name of my Forum - Name of my CMS homepage

I'd like for it to just read, "Name of my CMS homepage."

    The Forum homepage is www.mydomain/forums/forum.php

In a google search it comes up as: Name of my forum

    That's totally fine.

I just don't want my CMS homepage sharing my Forum Page's name.

The other issue is the entry for my domain name. It's also being given a google search listing.

You can change the page title by editing the CMS_page template to remove the bbtitle string.

Brian, are you referring to the vbcms_page?

I found a possible solution while searching the forums.

I edited the template to this: <title>{vb:raw html_title}</title>

Will that now help my CMS homepage to get indexed in this format?

    CMS Homepage Name
    Site Description
    mydomain.com

    A few more questions.

    1. How can I avoid having so many pages indexed?

Again, right now the following pages are being indexed with the same title name and description.

    mydomain.com
    forums/index.php
    forums/forum.php

This site is indexed like this:

vBSEO - The Leading SEO Plugin for Vbulletin
    Site Description
    www.vbseo.com

Community - VBSEO - The Leading SEO Plugin for Vbulletin
    Description for Community..
    www.vbseo.com/forums

This site is using Vbulletin 4.0 also, but it's not being indexed under these files.

    forums/index.php
    forums/forum.php

    How is it doing this?

    2. I'm waiting for version 4.1.3 to be released before I purchase your product. Will it be compatible with that version?

    3. If I purchase and install vbseo now, will I have issues when I upgrade VB to 4.1.3?

Thank you so much for your assistance.

We aren't installed in /forums/. /forums/ is a CRR (Custom Rewrite Rule) for forum.php. Using our homepage settings, you can have 1 url for 1 resource, even with the vb4 multiple script mess.

While we have no idea what vb 4.1.3 will bring as it doesn't exist yet, if any compatibility issues will arise, we will release a fix as soon as possible.

vbseo is seamless in the vb upgrade process (assuming no major version change, ie vb3 to vb4).

So I'd have to move the CMS to avoid the duplicate search entries?

No, it can run the homepage from root / ,or /forums/content/ , or anything else you want to call it, and the full articles will always be reflected to your install path. If you're not running anything in root and are installed in /forum/ or another similar folder, it's best to migrate to root.

I'm currently installed in /forum. I thought that was my root.

Are you saying that I'd have to get rid of the /forum folder and just put all the contents of /forum in the root where my robots file is located?

Also, won't moving everything to root, cause problems with my CMS articles and forum threads in searches? Right now all of my content has /forums after the mydomain.com
