Any gotchas to know about before purchasing?

    Hi,

I am one of the admins at TalkSoccer.net/forum which is a huge soccer/football forum on the web with a lot of traffic and around half a million posts to date. We are running vBulletin 3.5.3 and we are interested in purchasing vBSEO.

Any gotchas to know about? Any reason it might be incompatible with our setup? Is it a headache to install?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to find out more before purchasing.

    Thanks.

    It's easy to install.

The only thing you must realise there will be an increase in load, and i see you have a very busy site. But that's is my personal experiance.

Thanks for the input. How much of an increase. Are we talking a heavy load on the server? What causes the increased load?

Also, is there a way to turn it on and off or is it an "always on" kind of thing once it's installed?

I'm just trying to figure out if there is a reason not to go for it. I really don't know much about it at this point and for all I know it could screw up the entire forum.

The only gotcha to know of, is that it will most likely increase your hosting costs

We're already on a dedicated server with huge traffic so unless this thing puts a crazy load on the system then that won't be a problem. What exactly is it doing that results in an increase of the load?

vBSEO is installed and running in forums with over to 8,000 concurrent users without problems. Increased serverloads will occur only if your server is already over-taxed before installing, or due to other incompatibility issues.

What is your current server load at peak times? From my experience, if you are on Unix at a SL of 2 or less (pre-vbseo), it shouldn't be a problem. I also suggest you enter your .htaccess rules via httpd instead of .htaccess. To do this, simply enter the default vBSEO .htaccess rules within the <Directory> section of your httpd.conf file and restart Apache.

One final question for now: can it be configured to work with lighttpd.

Yes, lighttpd is supported (there is a file with rewrite rules especially for lighttpd in vBSEO package).
