I think forums that have been around for a long time can achieve that sum but new forums starting out don't stand a chance anymore, especially with all these social networking sites - competition is greater than ever.

I agree with you that it is hard today. No general forum will ever do anything anymore.

However, new niches get created everyday.... new car models, new phone models, new games, new products, etc etc. Those are what you need to jump on day 1, score a domain and get setup in 24 hours. That's really what it takes now to make it.

Or, buy something already established and work hard to bring it up to SEO speed and profit from the enhancements.
