That is the cost of a good server, unless you collocate. 300, I don't find it expensive... if you want performance. On the other hand, I prefer to buy my own hardware and collocate it near my house, so I an drive in 3minutes to fix any issues I might get on my Blackberry. It is way cheaper and is the only way I deal with hosting.

He was not referring to the cost of the server, he was referring to the cost of the management. It was $300 per month for just the management through that previous link in this thread (eg. on top of the cost of having a dedicated server). That is 'darn expensive'

I am now spending $400 a month for my dedicated server, and I am receiving awesome support and management (with a really high end server).

hornstar6969, that's a good price if your on dedicated server and receiving great support/management.

by the way, when you say management, do you mean they manage the server for you completely?

They upgrade apache, php, mysql, xcache, and other server software that I request, they optimize my server, they update the kernel etc. All the management I need, I am receiving.

How can you make such judgements? Have you ever used our services to make such judgements? For that matter, I know you have not just by the very fact you made that comment.

I can fully appreciate the specific services are not designed for everyone, they target a specific niche and it certainly works. If the fee is not something you feel fits your business then that's fine but please do not pass judgement when you have no experience what so ever on any of our services. I think our reputation speaks for itself.

Joe, any thoughts on offering co-location services? What I'd really love is a cheap colo' but at present, rates for most of the recommended DCs come in at a cost that is nearly as much as what I'm paying for my dedicated server.

We are still hoping to gain additional feedback from more users completing the server. So far, we are seeing that there is a significant amount of users that are not getting the service they deserve (and pay for).

Do you think people would take it up though? If it was possible to offer colocation so cheap everyone would be doing it but the support costs, power, bandwidth, cooling and so on all add up. Pretty much unless you have a fair number of machines it's cheaper to rent dedicated servers than colocate in the majority of instances.

Would be interesting to see though.

Colo costs are climbing due to the costs of power. It's unavoidable
