I've gotten around this by making the notice an image, and using an image map to control links (register, etc.)

Right, it's definitely a good approach, heck we've been using it for the last 2 years. But the 'html virtual display' approach is definitely more scalable, and (best of all), can be applied to dynamic content, which the "turn stuff into images" approach can't. Plus, it keeps your pages lighter.

Actually, we had started working on a mechanism to enable users to convert stuff into images in an automated fashion, but the lightbulb turned on for us, at which point we abandoned the idea.

I notice since upgrading to 3.3.0 RC1, the nofollow attribute doesn't get applied to external URL's, even though the option is ticked as YES
    Any ideas why?
It was working prior to the upgrade

    Hi!

    1) when vBSEO 3.3.0 GOLD will release?
    2) when vBulletin 4.0.0 released then what will happen for vBSEO 3.2 users? they should stay with vBulletin 3.x.x?
    3) if vBSEO 3.2 do re-write all of my forum URLs then I will have problem to use vBSEO 3.3.0 GOLD?
    4) for install vBSEO I should modify my htacess or software will do it automatically?

I'm suspect to use vBSEO because I think may it hold me and dont let me to upgrade my vBulletin in the future also I think may it hurt my forum database, am I right?

    Thank you

    1. They don't provide ETA's. But, the current release is quite stable too (3.3.0 RC1)

    2. No. vBSEO will continue supporting vBulletin and it would be compatible with vB 4.0 too when it comes out.

    3. Nope. Upgrades usually don't pose any problems. Though you would need to see if any new features & options were added and appropriately set them, if required.

    4. Yes, an .htaccess edit is required. It has to be done manually. Shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to do.

(You can either upload the .htaccess provided with the vbseo package as-is; or just copy-paste the rules in case you already have an .htaccess file)
