Hello all.
vBSEO RC4 has now been officially released. I like to refer to RC4 as the "Pre-Release" Release! Why? Well, two reasons really:
(1) Despite the fact that our team of borderline OCD-ish testers have piled up a task list that would give Deepak Chopra an anxiety attack, we managed to implement fixes for all in RC4.
(2) My main partner in crime and lead developer Oleg refused to sleep for 3 days resulting in changes to the vBSEO pre-processing engine that will make vBSEO do its job more efficiently & probably reminded his wife of the days before she had her official cuddle buddy. Oleg - it's ok to sleep now.
Here is a summary of updates included in vBSEO 2.0 RC4:
(1) Full overhaul on the pre-processing engine resulting in:
(2) The new pre-processing engine allowed for the integration of the following new features:
- minor bug fixes
- significant efficiency/performance improvements in the processing engine for rewriting
- improved flexibility for future enhancements
- reduction of required .htaccess directives
(A) Dynamically generated METAS for:
(B) Rewrite Archive Root - The vB archive root can now be customized to a directory of your choosing such as "/sitemap/", "/archive/", or "/hello/google/".
- Member Profiles
- Forum Displays
![]()
/* NOTE: Old archive root URLs will be 301 redirected to the new custom formats. Forums with heavily indexed archive URLs may see some changes in their SERPs as the engines detect the 301 redirects to update the index. */
Example:
http://www.vbseo.com/sitemap/f-5.html will be 301 redirected to http://www.vbseo.com/sitemap/f-5.html
(C) vBSEO now functions with PHP in safemode.
(D) vB "Merge Threads" feature now works with vBSEO static CRUs (content relevant URLs).
(E) vBSEO copyright notice was removed from the vB redirection pages.
(F) Upload of XML settings file in vBSEO control panel now includes a confirmation message. The OCD types no longer have to say "I can't be sure if that worked... I have to upload it again".
(G) HTML Entities are now removed from static CRUs. This shortens average URL lengths, removes unnecessary noise words, and increases in-URL keyword relevancy.
(H) vBSEO is now xHTML compliant.
I welcome your feedback and I await the next series of bug reports for RC4, especially now that we have several new testers joining the team. We haven't printed any vBSEO t-shirts yet, but the first tester to report an RC4 bug wins bragging rights (shipping & handling included). As always, please do not hesitate to contact any of us either via the forums or PM.
