Thumbs up vBSEO 2.0 RC3 Released

Hello everyone. I am pleased to announce the release of vBSEO 2.0 RC3. Although, the release was initially scheduled for July 18th, we needed extra time to fix a few minor bugs and resolve some issues with the encryption methods. FYI vBSEO is now available in both ionCube & Zend encrypted formats to ensure compatibility with your web server configuration.

    Thank-you all for being patient.

I am sure that RC3 will be worth the wait. Minor bugs have been fixed & some new features have been added, including my personal favorite... a new XML backup/restore system for the control panel settings. This feature will protect you from overwriting your current settings when performing vBSEO upgrades.

/* Changes to RC3 were primarily feature enhancements. */

Here is a summary of updates included in vBSEO 2.0 RC3:

Core dynamic pages are now redirected to the new static pages
This affects the following dynamic pages:

    (1) Member Profiles
    (2) Member list Pages
    (3) Member list Pages (by letter)
    (4) Announcements
    (5) Multiple Announcements
NOTE: Originally, only dynamic thread pages were redirected to the new "rewritten" pages. Redirecting all dynamic pages ensures that forums with many old incoming links to their dynamic pages will now resolve to the new static content via 301 redirects.

In admin config, the label '301 Redirect Original Threads' has been changed to '301 Redirect Original Content' to reflect the changes given above.

New Archive Setting: 'Rewrite + 301 Redirect Archive Pages'
With this option enabled, archive thread URLs are rewritten to point to the new static pages. However, any old dynamic archive thread pages are also 301 redirected to the new static pages.

NOTE: Previously, when the 'Rewrite Archive Pages' setting was enabled, links to the archive threads were rewritten to point to the new static pages. However, old dynamic archive thread links (i.e. those linked from other websites or SERPS) would direct users (or SE crawlers) to the old archive threads themselves. With the new setting, these old pages will be 301 redirected ot the new static content.

    New static URL settings
The following URL rewrites have been added:

    (1) Print versions of threads (printthread.php)
    (2) Print versions of thread with multiple pages
    (3) Single versions of posts (showpost.php)

    vBSEO Interface Enhancements

    (1) The 'custom' field radio button is auto-selected whenever the data is being entered into the field.
    (2) The variables in the 'custom' fields can now be enclosed with left and right square brackets ('[' and ']') in addition to '%'.

    Email Compliance

    (1) Links to 'New Post in Thread' (when subscribed to a thread) land in the appropriate static thread, thread page, and post #.
    (2) Links to 'New Threads' (when subscribed to a forum) land in the appropriate static thread.

    Other Changes

    (1) '&' symbols in URLs are replaced by 'and' instead of 'amp' in the static URL versions.
    (2) ä, ö ,ü and ß are replaced by ae, oe, ue and ss respectively in CRUs. NOTE: These replacements will be enhanced in the final release by providing options for the replacement values to be selected on a per language basis.

As always, your feedback is welcomed and appreciated! Good luck with your RC3 installations. If you encounter any difficulties please do not hesitate to contact any of us either via the forums or PMs

Be careful mate - there are problems with it that they are fixing. Been one new version in the last 12 hrs, and another that is being worked on.

Needs a hack to the Link Vault code as well.

vbSEO - Not perfect yet, but getting there.

Check out how the archive is working for you - not working well for me.

Otherwise, its a brilliant system. Specially once they have the bugs fixed. They have been pulling out their hair with it all.

    Hi T2Dman,

I could not trace the problems with archive (ignorance is a bliss ) ... but still what are your concerns?

    Betas at your own risk:

Then you are lucky. Stick with what you have got and be careful to keep a backup of the old vbseo files if a new version does not work.

Have a look at the urls on the following:
    http://reviews.time2dine.com.au/archive/index.php/

namely the following is being worked on so I am told - missing the archive/index.php:
    http://reviews.time2dine.com.au/f-30.html

A previous version that I have on my other forum is working fine, but there are a few issues that a later version was said to fix. Not risking it.

    The following is working:
    http://forum.time2dine.co.nz/archive/index.php/f-4.html

Link Vault - turn on the test mode and check that the links reported in the footer are the same as the url in the address bar. If they are not, then make the following change in the LV file

    replace:
    $ThisURL = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
    with
    ($_SERVER['VBSEO_URI'])? $ThisURL = $_SERVER['VBSEO_URI']: $ThisURL = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

a recent version of vbseo has added the variable so you can make reference to it in LV. Future automatic updates of the LV file will include the above line.

However, the version that includes the above variable has the issue with the archive. So its a no win situation. Patience is a very hard thing when your forum is not properly functional and the code is now zend encoded so cant be hacked to fix it.

    Hi T2Dman,

Then, I am sticking with the older version until the bugs are fixed. Could the errors in your archives be due the fact that you have installed your forums like -->http://forums.time2dine.co.nz/ where as mine are in format --> http://www.time2dine.co.nz/forums/ . Could this be reason for your trouble. just a pointer.

    Regards

Yes, that is certainly part of the reason - part of the bug that they are fixing.
