I'm in the same boat as convergent, like most, probably.

    currently:
domain.com/ all my regular content, home-rolled cms
    domain.com/existing-keyword-based-forum-directory/ forum content

Furthermore, I'm looking to add forum content 'areas,' so I'd like to have the following in my vB4 installation:

domain.com/existing-keyword-based-forum-directory/ prior existing forum content, URLs unchanged
    domain.com/new-keyword-based-forum-directory/ new forum content
domain.com/yet-more-keywords-based-forum-directory/ still more new forum content
    etc.
domain.com/ everything from the CMS in root with rewritten URLs

As original announcement states that vBSEO 3.5.0 will be compatible with vBulletin 4 . This means vBSEO 3.2.0 will not be compatible with vBulletin 4

On any condition , you'll not be able to do this with vBSEO 3.5 or vBulletin 4. The targetted option within vBSEO 3.5.0 will allow you to move your blogs , member profiles outside of your forum directory. However in order to run multiple forums on different keyword forum directory , you'll need multiple vBulletin and vBSEO license.

I don't think so. You just have to run everything in root with a collective set of rewrite rules mapping the different subforums to their keyword-based-directory names. You certainly wouldn't need multiple licenses to run this on one domain.

There is no plan to move specific forums out of vBulletin installation directory.

I'm not explaining myself correctly, most likely. And I may be confused by forum_title and the definition of "forum."

Let's say I install my forum in the root directory. I have one installation of vB there, with one forum named This Forum with sub-forums and another named That Forum with sub-forums.

will vBSEO allow me to create domain.com/this-forum/thread-title.html links and domain.com/that-forum/thread-title.html ?

Yes, but thread-title must also include thread-id. Threads are required to have the ID in them, so
    domain.com/this-forum/thread-title-123.html
    and
    domain.com/that-forum/thread-title-456.html

Absolutely. You may also create a hierarchic structure that includes forums and subforums, like 'domain.com/that-forum/this-subforum/thread-title.html' by using the [forum_path] variable in the custom URL field.

    Re: ID's in thread titles
Technically you don't need them, however, if you don't use them, more than likely there will be threads named the same, in which case the system will not be able to pick one from the other.

Practically the Upcoming vBSEO 3.5 is good only for users with vbulletin version 4.

That is not correct as vBSEO 3.5.0 will work both with vB 3.x series and vB 4.x series

Do you think of releasing a vbseo 3.5 beta after vbulletin 4 beta comes out and before vbulletin 4 gets gold?

This is not planned at this time. further, we would suggest being very careful about using beta software on your live site, especially a conversion of this magnitude. vb may not even release upgrades for beta to final, so be careful.

Great.. I already bought a vbulletin Suite license and can't wait to get the CMS installed.

I have vbullein forum installed in the root with forum home page as index. So once the Suite is installed the index.php will be the cms & somename.php (e.g. forum.php) will be the forum home, right?

Now all I need is to get vBSEO rewrite

    the blog path as /blog/
    cms paths as /category-1/, /category-2/
forum category paths as /forum-category-1/, /forum-category-2/ (vBSEO is already doing it.)

    Will this be possible?

I'm not exactly sure how vb4 will ship in terms of whats at root, but yes, you will be able to re-write the entire cms and blog along with the forum with vbseo 3.5.
