vBSEO is designed to work on regular vBulletin installations. The option you are asking isn't offered with vBulletin. Thats why currently vBSEO doesn't offer this default installations. However as there is a solution for member urls , i am sure there is a possibility to use cms outside of vBulletin installation. However as we didn't make tests on this , we can't give you an 100% correct answer.
What about my site where the forums are currently installed in the root folder (i.e. www.mysite.com)? Is there a way to put the CMS as the entry point?

    Hello Jason ,

Currently it will require an additional .htaccess file to do that but we are planning to improve this a lot further. Details will be within vBSEO 3.5.0 announcement.

    Just one question:

vBSEO 3.5 will include the spanish languaje?

If don't, I could translate it. What do you think?

vBulletin costs more now. What about vBSEO?
At this time, we have no plans to increase costs of vBSEO on any software licenses, branding removals, renewals, or services offered.

As in the past, vBSEO 3.5 will be a FREE upgrade to all active licenses. You may renew at anytime for support and access to the new versions in the downloads area if your license is expired. Additionally, we will not impose charges for failing to update your license before 3.5 is released. Upgrade when YOU are ready!

vBSEO is still just $149 per license which includes support and download access for 1 full year. Renewals are still just $35 per year for support ticket access and ability to upgrade to the latest versions after your first year with our software.

Great business sense vBSEO and thank you

Hi, vBSEO as far as I am aware already supports Spanish as a language.

I have seen 4.0 in action and the CMS at work and I'm also in the position of not being able to comment too much on vB4.0 - but I can impart some information without giving too much away. Here's a very mini faq that might help some.

    • Q. vBulletin 4.0 includes many SEO improvements, will I still need vBSEO?
If you are serious about you site's SEO then you will DEFINITELY still require vBSEO.
      ~
    • Q. What will happen if I drop vBSEO after upgrading my vB to 4.0?
All of your existing URL's are nicely rewritten and follow an exact format as defined by you (or the vBSEO defaults). Dropping vBSEO on release of vBulletin 4.0 will have a very detrimental impact to your website as all your URL's will take on new formats - all existing pages in google's index will 'drop off' and you will have to wait for a complete re-indexing, your rankings will definitely take a tumble. All of your deep page inbound links will in all likelihood no longer count toward link popularity as they will now be pointing to 404 [page not found] pages - your SERP positions will slide off the chart in a bad way. Add to the fact you will experience 'Google Shock'... a phenomenon I experienced when radically changing my entire URL structure - Google didn't come by for a week, then re-indexed the entire site... all the while I had NO deep indexed pages in SERPS - this lasted for 3 weeks and could happen to you with a greater or lesser extent.
      ~
    • Q. I do not own vBSEO, and won't have the problems described above, do I need vBSEO?
Whilst the overall SEO of vB 4.0 is much improved there are still hundreds of areas for optimisation left - Enter vBSEO 3.5. To answer your question in a nutshell - you don't need vBSEO... no-one does. However, if website crawlability, getting more thoroughly indexed and high rankings are important to you, then vBSEO is crucial.
      ~
    • Why not just use vB 4.0 as is, it has SEO built in?
vBulletin's team are fantastic at what they do and that's making community driven, forum based software. Their expertise doesn't lie in SEO.
Just as you would not go to a car dealer for a loaf of bread, you should not go to vBulletin for SEO. Sure, a car dealer (vB) will know a little about bread, but a baker (vBSEO) knows infinitely more. vBulletin's skill lies elsewhere.
      ~
    Hope this helps.

This sounds fantastic but I have one question regarding vBSEO and the CMS:
Will you or can you provide a way to let the forum run under a complete different URL as the CMS if both reside on the same server?

    Hi Marcus,

The forum and CMS already HAVE to be on different URLs.

If you mean 'different domain', then no. I'd be surprised if vBulletin allowed that without 2 licenses.

They HAVE TO reside on the same server. Running the CMS on a seperate domain will be possible via redirects but it may present some challenges. You will need to ensure all cms requests are 301 redirected to the other domain. You will also need to ensure non cms requests on the cms domain are redirected to the forum domain.

Yes, definitely possible however you will need to plan this and test it carefully and work out all rewrites carefully.

Actually, since you will be technically running the software on two seperate websites, you will in most likelihood require two licenses.

I mean different domains, e.g. domain1.com (CMS) and domain2.com (Forum).

I'd love to be able to do exactly this. Let's see how this will work out.

vBSEO relies on the vBulletin Option of 'forum_url'. Because this cannot be the same on two sites/domains, it's not likely to be able to happen.

Plus, you would need two vBSEO licenses and probably 2 vB Forum Suite licenses. It would be a pricey route, that may not be workable.

I'd have to wonder why you'd bother though.

For vBSEO to rewrite links on Site A's CMS (CMS A) to point to stuff inside Site B's forum (Forum B), everything on CMS A would have to link to the domain that Forum B lives on.

So, what would be the point?
