If so, will you be able to import your "thanks" from that mod
And while Im at it, if so, can you add a nice bit of feel good factor that will send either a pm or email when members receive a "what ever you decide to call it"
That way you should in theory build up more members returning

"Likes" will have notifications (not emails or pms) that show up in the toplinks bar along with your other notifications, and a list within your User CP that lists all your likes received.

exactly what i was looking for. do not like the current placement for sharing buttons so have disabled them.

offtopic question. i have seen on my board. enabling relevant replacement removes the facebook like button from the thread pages. is that a known thing?

Looks like it will be for a built in Likes function which, I personally, would rather see an FB likes function used for instead.

I'm more of the opinion that one likes button to rule them all better fits. The FB likes button gives the users the impression that this is good/important content along with the added benefit of sharing it with potential visitors on FB.

the basic problem with facebook likes is that you are sending all the analytics data to facebook and facebook alone.

it would be pretty hard for you to calculate the likes individual posts have received and sort them out for your users.

also... for every like, a message is posted on the user's wall. i can assure you that i do not use the facebook like option on forums just because it adds too much clutter to my stream and that annoys everyone in your friend circle.

an internal system is great. why? because the data is used on your board to show most popular posts. AND... your users would use it more because it does not clutter their facebook profiles. of course not everyone is on facebook. there are also privacy implications. facebook like button has been a failure on my board. no one likes to use it. there are people who would not connect their facebook accounts to the board for signin because they do not want to reveal their actual names. i am waiting for vB to add twitter signin. twitter is more likely to be used for account creations because it allows multiple profiles unlike facebook.

from my experience on xenforo... an internal system for likes which is properly integrated is going to be heavily used by folks on the forum. it replaces the need to post a +1/thanks in the thread which adds clutter. i am seriously waiting for this feature. and i have fewer reasons to switch to xenforo rightaway.

my friends on facebook would have little interest in posts on my forum.

btw, the new share option is also there as visible above.

The problem with facebook..... is facebook. It is the #1 competitor to all of our forums. There are reasons to integrate, but the more we offload content/service to facebook, the less chance we have to succeed.

While not in existence yet, if facebook sets up a 'forum' area, it could be detrimental to many of us within days.

As such, adding functionality to our sites that stays on our sites is key, and that is exactly where this mod fits in.

A consolidated system would be ideal (say Facebook likes). But we learned our lesson from Tweetboard, most people are selective to what they *share* back to the social network (in this case FB). Most will not want to "pollute" their stream with stuff that may not be relevant to %90 of their friends. The end result would be the under-utilization of the likes feature for this reason alone.

Reply Alert is a custom modification we coded for vBSEO.com forums. Currently we are developing our Like feature. It is not being determined to import any thing from other modifications. That maybe done in future versions.
