You don't even know what they are actually patenting and how it will affect you yet you already know it will be bad?
Its just people complaining. What the do best. I suppose maybe we'll hear about this more now then their encoding arguments and the such. which is some what good, cause those grow tiring everyday
Oh and good job vBSEO team!
It's an expensive PR stunt, whether it will pan out remains to be seen. U.S. patents are rarely actually enforcable elsewhere (even if they legally are), and even here in the U.S. software patents often get a thumbs-down from judges because many of them are entirely too general to be acceptable even if the patent office granted the patent.
I don't see how this changes anything for current vBSEO customers, I do see a C&D letter comming Zoint SEO's way though. Maybe that's what this is all about anyway. Must be annoying to have someone give something away for free that has elsewhere been selling well.
I dont get what the big deal about Zoints is. Its the next best thing yea... but 1) its not supported 2) not being developed 3) really buggy.
How VBSEO could find that threatening to the stable, actively developed program they have is beyond me
considering that the owner of zoints personally runs vbseo, and is a member here, i don't see that happening![]()
When will this kind of information go public? I assume that it will be online at uspto.gov once they received your applications, so that others can inspect it if they've got any objections against it, but as stated I can't find any record in the patents DB.
Congrats. Iam really interested in a SEO-Software for TYPO3.
Thanks a lot!

If vbSEO has a patent on not it is still a great product and I can't see it making any difference to any of us who use it on our forums.
I'm not a big fan of patents myself, but hey if the software still works and drives extra traffic to my forum, who am I to complain.
I am a software patent holder myself. Here is my view.
How the vBSEO sofware works could be duplicated by any competing company utilizing 301 redirects and mod-rewrite. The chances of any "sensitive" info about the product getting out due to the patent is fairly slim.
What are competitors going to find out?
"vBSEO uses mod-rewrite and 301's!! OMFG LOOK AT THE PRETTY PONIES!!!!" - vBSEO competitor.
What vBSEO is doing here is patenting there IDEA. Not the software itself.
Congratulations, team!
