Question Moving from phpBB with SEO-friendly mod to vBulletin

    Hi,

I'm new here, so I'll introduce myself as coming from vBulletin.com and looking for a solution to my changing URL problem, with the goal of moving from phpBB2 to vBulletin. My phpBB forum already has a mod that makes all URLs look like .html pages.

My phpBB forum has URLs in the form of article#####.html -- where ##### is the topic ID. I believe Impex has a new 404.php tool that we can use to 301 redirect these to the new vB topic IDs (presumably with normal vB URLs, not vBSEO).
For best SEO results, none of the old URLs can be broken in the transfer to vB.

Can vBSEO work with these kinds of URLs? Can I do 301 redirects to new vBSEO addresses?

    Thanks.

Re: Moving from phpBB with SEO-friendly mod to vBulletin

    Hello Elliot,

The only problem with doing that easily is, that the Impex Importer for vBulletin does not retain your old phpBB Thread ID's. They are stored in the database in a different field though, so it may be possible.

    More info here:
External incoming links - vBulletin Community Forum

That should get your old URLs rewritten to the new vBulletin ID's. That could be added to the first part of your .htaccess, then vBSEO could take over and rewrite the vBulletin URL.

    Thumbs up

I have recently ported a phpBB forum to vBulletin using impex. I also installed Jerry's 404.php tool (found in the impex package) to redirect old phpBB URLs to the corresponding vBulletin URLs.

When I installed vBSEO, I only had to make a few simple modifications to the 404.php file to get it to translate the old phpBB URLs to the new vBSEO URLs with just one redirect. Works great!
I'm using vbSEO for my epilepsy forum.
