Smile K D M SEO Writer saying howdy folks

    Hey all on VBSEO

MrFlicks of TVWorlds.com aka Keith D here saying Hi.

I recently upgraded our forum at TVWorlds.com to VB 3.7 with the help of Santai from GFXStyles who in return I put on top of Yahoo and Google for the search terms

    best quality vbulletin themes

and a number of related se terms including a Page 2 Google for the pure "vbulletin themes" se term.

I have number one listings on all the top three search engines for some SEO related terms and aim to make SEO my main thing and at some point will be puchasing vbseo though I want to see how well i can do without it first.

I already have th forum listed first on Yahoo and MSN for

    Worlds best SEO writer

So even though I realise the need for VBSEO to go with the VBulletin forum software for much better SEO I want to do some testing without VBSEO installed first.

    Welcome aboard Keith D.

Sounds like you are doing well with some keyword targets. Why not install vBSEO and let long tail traffic explode too:

    Thanks for the welcome Joe

I will be adding VBSEO to our forum at some point - it just so happens Long Tail (or Long String) is my favourite type of SEO as it is makes much more sense when it comes to human nature than all this advice you get from people on other forums about one word key searches.

I am sure you have read your fair share of such advice and wondered what these people were thinking advising people to only target one word search terms when we all know from our own searches it is not often you search for one word unless its something like "Yahoo" "Google" and things of that nature.

I might add it was VBSEO that allowed me to get GFXStyles the number one results they have to some extent with the se friendly URL's playing a big part.

We don't discount the power of top terms. If you can get them, that's absolutely fantastic! But - we do discount claims that any software company makes at guaranteeing them. In the hyper competitive field of SEO, it is simply not possible to make such guarantees. Caveat emptor!

Our software, like some other software applications, can actually help you improve rank on some of your top terms. But it is by no means guaranteed. However, by optimizing on a page by page basis, improving in ranking across thousands of terms (i.e the long tail SEO effect) really does take effect.

So vBSEO is very much a long tail compliant software application.

Link consistency and consensus plays a huge role in this:
Pin the Tail on the SEO Donkey (with Link Consensus)!

But a site with a growing long tail and growing search engine credibility, also has a much better shot at pulling traffic for top terms.

You have to build links to something. So my recommendation for all forums, when link building, is to do some keyword research so that you can not only vary your anchor text, but also make sure that the anchor text you are using has keyword variations that you have a reasonable probability of achieving a traffic-bearing ranking for.

I agree its nice if you can get them but I myself prefer to build the Long Tail SE terms as you mentioned above Joe. One word search terms do of course have their place just not in the same way long tail ones do these days what with the improvements made in recent years by the SE's - I would not discount them myself either!

I also agree RE guarenteeing number one results to - run away from such people/companies guarenteeing such things as fast as Michael Johnson runs the 100 metres.

Am going to take a read of those links in the last post out of interest to.

    Wow that's fast!

If Usain Bolt run's the 100 metres at the next Olympics he would be a pretty sure bet if you were a betting man.

What's more he regards the 200 metres as his best event so I guess it won't be long before he breaks the World Record for that discipline to.

Looks like Jamaica are lined up to take a few Olympic Gold Medals Beijing Joe.
