Welcome aboard Suzi. There are a lot of different portal options out there. vBAdvanced, despite it's clunkiness, is still one of the most common ones installed by our customers.
For SEO purposes, vBSEO will work very well with vBAdvanced and most portal systems. Please let us know what other options you are considering and we can give you some feedback on setup options with vBSEO.
Please let us know if you have any specific questions about vBSEO, so that we can get your forum maxed out asap.

I have started a thread in the pre-sales board. I am interested in it because I am not getting much traffic on it.
