Thumbs up Hello, porcupine73 here, long time vbSEO admirer

Hello, porcupine73 here. I've longed for vbSEO for some time now and just decided to pull the trigger. 'gotta spend money to make money' as my brother says haha

Just bought vbSEO and I am happy already! I am on Win 2003 with IIS6, so I installed the free 'lite' ISAPI Rewrite 3 and it seems to be working fine so far!

I, erm, ahem, must admit I had a false start.......after the install the forums didn't work and I was getting these errors below.....after about an hour of horsing around I reset all my permissions on the includes folder to the default and it worked! I always try to limit even read access to the bare minimum and must have messed something up in there....now she's working, I admit

I'm a bit surpsied how easy the installation is and how the URL rewrite just 'works'...it's pretty amazing since I have fawned over url rewrites for some time now. I also have vbAdvanced and some vbGeek stuff and photopost. Forgive my constant run on sentences plz, too excited to stop!

So hit me up http://scoobyfiles.com will get you there, right now I"m focusing on a Subaru enthusiast site since I loveeee Subaru's.

Oh these are the errors I was getting when I had my permissions messed up:

Hi thanks for the welcome. OzScience - Powered by vBulletin is working fine and the rewrites seem to work ok.

http://scoobyfiles.ozscience.com/forums/ however is still showing the old unrewritten URL's and gives an error when clicking anything....just working on figuring that out right now.

Hm..maybe I need the 'full' version of the helicon isapi rewrite in order to have it do the subdomains? I wasn't really sure which version I needed, so I just went with the lite version as 'free' just had some strange extremely attractive property to it lol..

if you have more than one site on iis, then yes, you will need the pro version.

or, try this: Ionics Isapi Rewrite Filter - Home

i think its far superior to isapi, and supports the apache version htaccess.

Thanks for the input. I'll check out the IIRF solution, looks interesting. I should clarify, scoobyfiles.ozscience.com points to the exact same installation as ozscience.com (same vBulletin install, same database, etc etc). Originally i had scoobyfiles.com and ozscience.com pointed to the same install but I think this is definitely a no-no in regards to licensing. vbulletin licensing seems to imply that subdomains pointing the same install are ok; I should probably read vbseo terms to make sure this is permissible. Yes I did click ok on the terms but did not read them carefully as I know I should have.

i.e. a url ozscience.com/forums/abcd would be the same as
    scoobyfiles.ozscience.com/forums/abcd

Unfortunately it's time for bed now so I'll have to check this out on lunch tomorrow or this weekend!

For seo-reasons, you DO NOT want to do that.

    pick one.

    301 the other to it.

you're duplicating your own content against your self.

Hm yes I hadn't thought of that. I'll take care of 301'ing the subdomain today. With the nice SEO friendly URL's I don't think I need the subdomain anyway since from the link it will be obvious what the link is for. Then I think I'll redirect the domain scoobyfiles.com into it's forum index on the ozscience.com board.

I was just planning to do the subdomain thing as I get started, then if a particular board section becomes popular of exporting it off to its own domain and buying licenses of all the software vbulletin/vbadvanced/vbseo etc for it. I was just thinking it would make it easier to try out various topics without committing a lot of cash to a board that might never go anywhere.

I haven't spent a ton of time thinking about my plan, but I was thinking of making a board for topics I know about and write a ton of articles for them, and mainly use good affiliate programs to try to make income. Topics like subarucars ('scoobyfiles'), hondamotorcycles, catsmakegreatpets, automotiverepair, thewellequippedgarage (just as examples). I guess I could use some google ads too.

By doing topics I like even if I don't make money on them I will be happy just having a board with good content info and members to chat with about the topic.

I got into this about a year ago and just did some dinking around. I haven't made much at all but interestingly to me just this one page site I threw together made a few $ from google ads last year, it's www.lewiswerner.com

    Hi porcupine73,
I'm now trying to use IIRF to rewrite for vbseo but i don't know how to star and how to join IIRF and VBSEO . Cause vbseo only use isapi_rewrite.

I've to choose IIRF cause my host provider.

    Thanks you.
