what to consider in an affiliate program

Before finally deciding to participate in an affiliate program, what are the things to consider first? What would make me say that this one among my options is the best program? How do you evaluate yours?

I look at the payout thresh-hold and Payout guidelines. If they make weekly payments or have a very low thresh-hold to ask for a check, i will join them. I like to recieve money weekly from affiliate programs that i belong to. Yes i'm greedy for money but the faster you pay your affiliates, the harder they will work to promote your product.

Support.... There needs to be a easy way to contact the affiliate manager or owner of the website to have some questions answered related to the affiliate program rules... details...etc I hate sending a email and not knowing if it went through or into the junk box. Live chat for the affiliates will make me also join that affiliate program. I trust someone more when i can have a conversation with them and not through emails.

Good resources in the affiliates area. Provide a few keywords that we could use for Google adword campaigns. I know people compete with the same keywords but you can out bid them if you know how to use Adwords to get converts.

What if the program pays every month but they have a pretty good commission rate...around 23%. is this a good deal? btw, thanks you so much!
