PS - TweetDeck seemed to be the star client side app to managing Twitter channels.
I'm with brent. we both signed up around the same time... both made profiles... and both posted to it about 5 times before forgetting about it and letting it sit there.
I have 0 use for twitter. I don't sell anything, nor have anything to promote. it's a waste of time IMO.
Have you considered a private channel for rapid communication just with your mod team, or perhaps doing a twitter search and posting replies back to anyone with questions about particular stuff in your niche to get them to visit your forum? What about automated integration that would post snippets of hot threads to the channel as tweets, so that you could get some Twitter search traffic?
I have a mod forum for mod communications.
I'm not hurting for traffic, and don't have the time to browse random threads on twitter to hope to gain a member out of it either.
i dunno, it seems useless to me.
I already have an account. It's dumb. There is like one person on there I pay attention too and it's almost impossible to follow him because he posts useless crap 90% of the time. I don't care what you are doing for lunch.
The only use I have ever gotten out of it was a trip to LA to see the 2010 Mustang reveal. That happened without me every having a twitter page though since someone else alerted me.
I agree with you Brent. There are a lot of useless tweets and some otherwise good channels are adding stuff every 15 minutes that adds a lot of noise to otherwise valuable info.
However, we should be thinking ahead to the ways it can actually be used effectively. It's starting to command a large audience, and it does not seem like a good idea to simply ignore it. Fortunately, you don't necessarily need to discover it on your own or even do anything about it right now. Just wait a few months as others start finding better ways to use it and then adapt their approach for your own use IF you believe it will help provide value back to you.
