Admincp -> styles & templates -> style manager - > Style Vars ->
doc_width
change from auto to your fixed width setting with a unit.
You may want to adjust other doc______ variables as well like min width, margins, etc.

I'm not sure if that works, can you guys confirm? I know that for vBSEO.com we added a container to set both, fluid and fixed widths.

it didnt work.. im stuck.. why do they make things so hard?
what exact settings did you use for the doc___ variables? I've changed widths on my test site multiple times now with this method.

Variables I found needed to be changed to get fixed width was
With the above you get a 940px site centred and with a 10px margin at the top, I have tried it on both my live and test sites both work fine.
- Doc_width
- Units = px
- Size = 940
- Doc_margin
- Units = px
- Use the 'top' value for all sides = No
- Top = 10
- Right = auto
- Bottom = 0
- Left = auto
