Is vb4 worth the "plunge" now?

As the topic states, is it worth shifting to vb4 now that vb3 has finally reached EOL? Though i'm quite happy with vb3.x.x. but i been "hearing" stuff that vb4 is not as unstable as it was before??

I been testing it for a while and i do not particularly hate it.. but i heard it usually messes your skins up after every release. This is the only thing i dread as i like to customize our skins "a lot"

Anyways is it really "okay" now or should i just stick to vb3 till vb5 is out (which is already being worked on lol)

No one can make this choice but you and/or your community. I ran a poll. Most wanted to stay on vb3 for now, so i did.

"If it ain't broke... don't fix it"

That's how I feel about vb3 at this point. I'm not against vb4 in any way... I just don't really have a need/use for it. The only thing I may want is the CMS, but I already have article forums set up, so i don't really need that either.

Couple that with the re-skinning, and all of the mods/do overs/and all the custom things i've done over the years... and it's a ton of work for.... nothing? It's still a forum that takes posts from a membership. I don't need it to do anything that it currently does not, and while yes, it has met end of life, there's still some 'shelf life' on it.

On top of that, I find vb4 to be a lot slower loading and nearly everything is more difficult to do or requires more typing (even a simple template conditional). I don't have as much spare time as I used to to devote to my own personal sites so this entire process seems to me to be a lot of work for a lateral move.

Until that move becomes an advancement in MY eyes to MY community, I will continue to run vb3.8.x

Same here, I still like 3.x and won't upgrade to 4.x until I have too.

Until last week I did not find a single reason to update from vb3 to vb4. But Andreas released a hack that shows all new content in one stream. That is a real benefit, because groups, blogs, albums, etc will no longer be hidden. But other than that, I see little reason to exchange a working vb3 for a bug ridden vb4.
The CMS is a nice idea, but its a SEO disaster and not a real CMS. It doesn't provide any other content type than articles.
The mobile style is unfinished and does not show blogs, groups, CMS.
vb4 search is an all out disaster.

vBulletin 4 search is pure disaster , i agree with that. You can use Digitalpoint Sphinx solution , it works like a treat.

We have started testing vb4 out now as vb3 is clearly being sidelined by vbulletin now. Even the latest security patch was not a complete patch! They just basically told us to switch to remote YUI as they can't be bothered with replacing YUI files to the latest version for vb3.x -_-

I couldn't even update if I wanted to as the review content type that was promised over a year ago still has not been released. I run GARS and that has been deserted. Im not sure what to do. I will have to jump ship if vBulletin Solutions does not come through.

Most of our old plugins work in vb4, leaving one or two which i guess i will try on my own to port from vb3 to vb4. Main issue for us are the skins.. we have to make a few custom skins again, which will be a time consuming process but we aren't in any rush for now.

I think vBulletin 4.1.4 offers promise....with the new CKE editor.

I'm leaning more towards xenforo...because I like it the more I play with it.
Would I upgrade to vB 4.x? not yet.

4.1.4 has a ton of issues. IMO, if you haven't, don't upgrade to 4.1.4. Wait for 4.1.5 (or whatever is next).

I would not say vb4 is out of beta stage yet, but its getting there. Theres still a load of bugs.
It seems that 4.1.5 will be the first release with a fully functional mobile style.
vb4 search still doesnt function well and 'Whats new' still is defunct.
The SEO features that they announced with vb4 are still not there. (except for their version of SEF urls) Instead they released their CMS with SEO suicide function. :P

But there are several addons for vb4 now that are a real step forward, like 'What's new Reloaded', 'dmActivitystream', 'attachment gallery', 'blog comment search controller', because these addons correct the invisibility of groups, blogs, albums, attachments, etc. Thats a real problem that vb3 has and vb4 was supposed to resolve. Without visibility vb groups and blogs are a fail.
