Are you getting any hits for the keywords in the tag cloud?
not really.
Then why bother keeping them? Remove it and reduce the link profile on your homepage, helping to channel link value into your sub-forums and thread pages.
done. I'm not sure what you mean by reducing the link profile on my homepage?
By "link profile" I meant all of the links you have on your homepage. Each one will take a share of the link value that is passed to the pages they link to.
If you reduce the total # of links, then there is more link value to be distributed among the remaining links.
I think tag clouds are good for SEO hence it should be good for your site too, but I wouldn't put the cloud on every page. Tags in general are good for SEO because they are hand edited categorized same as a person edited directory and hence search engines value this. Linking together related pages like Tag Cloud is key to getting indented search listings in Google.
I wouldn't spend much time tagging old content though, maybe just concentrate on keywords you want to rank for.
Apply carefully, good luck! :cheerleader:
