    T L A

This should be in the 'Monetizing' forum but there is now where to put it.

About a year ago when I was first trying to get some of my sites off the ground I used Text-Link-Ads just to see what kinda effect it would have on my sites with traffic and incomming links. Sufficed to say I figured out pretty quick that they only winners were TLA (followed by the sites advertising). So I submitted a few of my sites as publishers (which were turned down). Now today I get an email saying they want to add one of my sites to their inventory.

My Question is: I've worked extremely hard and spent a lots of money to get my sites to where they are now, search engines seem to give them a lot of air time. If I were to publish TLA (which im not, but there is a nagging 1% that says give it a go) would I be penalized for it?

ok, having a quick look on google has quashed that last 1% - personally I'm just looking to fund the website, but think i'll just stick to ppc/cpm.

Recently, there was a big hit with link selling. I'd suggest not doing it if at all financially possible

I have a wordpress blog (TecnoSquad) which was at PR6 when we signed up to LinkLift (kind of european TLA). We finally dropped the text links when we were down to PR3.

I filed a "request consideration" at Google Webmasters and a couple of days later I went up to PR5.

That's no coincidence at all. Text Links can and will hurt your PR, and even if I head that PR means nothing, well, while it does for my advertisers it does for me.

Depending on your interpretation on what TLA does, there is nothing in TLA's rules about not passing on pagerank (vBSEO does that serverside automatically anyway)... besides I think if targeted right our forum could offer more traffic than PR browiepoints.
