Sorry for my absence the past few days

As many of you know, I live in the north east of the USA. We had a freak snow storm roll in on Saturday... The 3rd storm in October in these parts in the past 100 years, and those dropped less than an inch. This storm dropped almost a foot (~28cm) Being Autumn, all the leaves were still on the trees. And the snow was wet, and heavy. The leaves caught the snow and the trees just couldn't hold it. It brought down power lines, trees, and just about anything not sturdy. I've been without power or anything else since sat night. I just got power back on this after noon, and my internet line came on about an hour ago. And I'm one of the lucky ones. There are still over 600,000 customers (ie, houses) without power in my state of Connecticut alone. There's only 4 million people that live here, and factor in an average household size around 3, and basically 90% of the state is without power. So, I'm lucky to be back online and out of the cold. There were some cold sleeping nights sunday and monday.

The damage out here is crazy. If you've ever seen Band of Brothers, the Bastonge episode where the trees are just shrapenel over head-- that is what it sounded like sat night. I slept in my basement.

I fared ok. No real damage to my house.

My friends and family weren't so lucky, with many having trees land on their houses and cars, to having power lines AND the meter sheared right off the houses.

There are lines for gasoline 2 miles long. The ones that do have gas, don't have power to pump them. The ones that have power, ran out days ago.

Stores have no food... and are taking cash only, so if you don't have any cash, you aren't getting anything.

It was at one point one step away from martial law around here in some parts. It's really disturbing to see our neighbors act like this.

I have a generator, and a pellet stove, but it wasn't enough watts to run it. So it was cold.

I tried to make the best of it. I tried to treat it like a little camping trip. It's still weird for me, a night owl, to go to bed at sun set. There simply was just nothing else to do. lol

I set up 'camp' outside and made myself a fire and a roast and listened to the radio most the time. My Flip had some juice so I took a short vid

    Anyway,

I'm finally re-plugged in to the world and will address all issues as soon as I possibly can. Thank you for you understanding in this matter.

I was just glad you made it back within the 20 minutes that day you were out shaking the trees.

Yeah, my shaking saved 2 or 3 of them. 1 is a loss. it's stuck on a 45 degree angle now, learning right in towards my house. I'll have to take that one down in the spring.

wow, during that storm passing thru, i was traveling to Hampton,Va to attend my Granddaughters birthday Friday night and during my travels it was raining heavy,it'll normally takes me about 5 to 6 hours to get there. But this took me about 12 hours because i had to reduce my speed to safe conditions. My cousin in Boston to this date has no power at all...So i would hate to be in your situation... I hope that everything gets back to normal for you

Yeah, it really is a disaster around here. School was canceled on monday for the WHOLE week. I've never in my 31 years seen school canceled sooner than the morning of for the day of classes. There's still no gas here. People are getting stranded, some in the line at the gas station as they run out waiting. I still have a 1/2 tank in my car and don't really have to go many places, so i should be fine. All things considered, I'm in a lot better shape than the majority here in New England. Cold nights, no food, no hot water. By day 4 you're done tolerating it and the tempers flair. There's been so many car accidents with no traffic lights on. And there's no cell service, so you can't even call for help.
