    Registration++ idea

    I was thinking about displaying a "recommend this site to a few friends" script immediately after a completed signup (after confirming email address). What do you think?

    To forward or do you think it would help with registrations?

    You might get a small %-age of new registrants to try it, and a %-age of those referrals to visit you. I do not see any down side, although I'm not quite sure it will result in dramatic results for you.

    I would suspect that (especially on your site) you would do well doing this on a per content basis. Do you do that already? Remember this article/podcast to a friend?

    There were two add on's on vb.org at one stage for members to invite their friends.

    One being
    Invitation System vB 3.7 Gold - vBulletin.org Forum

    Another was suspected of being a rip off version of a stand alone inviter. For some reason the so called developer put the hack into the grave yard when it was pointed out.

    TBH in all the time I have had both in place, I might have had two members use them.

    I have a link in the header to a stand alone web page with links to both hacks on it. It only shows once people are registered to stop the spam monkeys playing havoc with it.
    http://www.thespainforum.com/invite.html

    If you wanted to integrate one or the other into the registration process, it can be easily done.

    The following was taken from the hack in the graveyard explaining how to do it. But if you do, alter it around to suit your own needs and also give people the option to go to the forums rather than just the invite friends.

    1. Go to"Admin-cp"
    2. Expand "Languages And Phrases" and click on "Search in phrases"
    3. Search for text :
    Thank you, <strong>{1}</strong>. Your registration is now complete.<br />

    4. It will open "Varname : $vbphrase[registration_complete]"
    5. In text field write your message or refer to Projects Planet message below :
    Thank you, <strong>{1}</strong>.<strong>You are just 1 step away from registration!!</strong>
    <br/>
    <h1>Final Step :</h1>
    Invite your friends to join you at Your forum name! <a rel="nofollow" href="Enter link to your inviter here" Here To Proceed To Final Step.</strong></a>
    <br/>
    <br/>
    You can invite your friends/contacts from <strong>Orkut, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, Thunderbird, ICQ, AOL, Live, Rediffmail, Indiatimes, Lycos, Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, and many more.</strong>
    <br/>
    <a rel="nofollow" href="Enter link to your friends inviter here" >></strong></a>
    5. Click on "Save" button and thats all!!
    I can tell someone will be sat shaking his head, half expecting a reply from me about a hack on the org

    My opinion, waste of time. Settle for the first hack with a link in the nav bar if your going to go down that line.
