Alrite, I thought about this but my problem even on valid user emails we get this messages

Fox Example - if user enter a valid @yahoo.com email address we get a response from yahoo that specific user does not exists.

Do you have a solution to manage "Users Awaiting Email Subscription" ?

I ended up turning it off altogether. I don't require email activation.

There's just too many issues with spam filters these days, and i don't have the time to manually validate accounts.

I'd rather deal with the spam (and its not much) then deal with missing potential star members not being able to validate an account, get frustrated, and never post.

So you allow users to directly post on all your forums without looking for a email validation ?
This is good and as well bad

Having a high volume of bounced emails can get you blacklisted.

One cause for this is that dictionary generated email lists lead to high bounce rates and are generally used by spammers. (a link)

I only use vBulletin for the initial registration emails, and any user triggered events. (no mass mailings etc.) For newsletters, auto-responders and general mass mailings I've been using Interspire Email Marketer. It has a nifty way process bounced emails.

Another annoying thing is that most shared hosts (and some dedicated) cap the per-hour email sending at 50 messages. Meaning when you think you email 2000 users only the first 50 got the email...

We get majority of bounce back for this only.

We follow a similar way for sending emails via newsletters etc.

but as Brian suggested above, there is not much we can do to resolve this issue, if a user uses fake/directory based emails to become a member.. best approach here is to auto-delete this users using custom modifications.

There are one or two hacks that can help with running registrations with no email verification.

One of the best ones, checks the time it takes for a new member to fill out the registration form. That coupled with the question/ answer type registration works well.

Bung in another hack that moderates keywords and or links in the first five posts and you are virtually spam free.

I would have to look up what both hacks are called to give more of an idea of what I use with good results

Having email validation is a must IMO however I block all email providers who have over strict spam prevention or who are not perm email providers, eg. temp email account providers. I block yahoo as they have to many problems.

I also have modified all my unsubscribe info that gets sent along with every email so it is complient to all email providers.
I also have a system set up which changes reg users to users awaiting email if they get bounced emails which is a must if you are getting lots of bounced emails. check vb.org for the system I have.

There is much work that needs to be done to make the system better then default vb has.

    Good luck.
