Question about domain name

I just bought two new domains: off-topic.nl & offtopic.nl

I'd like to start a discussion forum on one of them. But which one should I pick as main domain (the other one will redirect to it) ?

In dutch the correct spelling is off-topic, and I believe it's the same in English.

But on the other hand, it's not always the case that domains use the correct spelling right? And at a domain forum they told me a hyphen isn't very good in a domain.

Offtopic.com is one of the largest forum sites out there.

they do not use the dash.

using the domain without the dash may get you into legal trouble if they have some how registered it.

So, i would suggest NOT using the dash in most cases, as word off mouth sucks to say "off dash topic dot nl" when people talk about it. But, i would check copyright issues first.

Ok I'll have to check that, don't think it's a problem though. Good point on the word off mouth thing.

yeah I'd go without the dash as well.

One of my sites has the dash in it and I only went with it at the time because I could not get it without the dash. I wish I had not now tho.

I would go without the dash also but as Brian highlighted make sure you check copyright information before purchasing the domain.
