Don't see why they don't make there own directory... it will become more popular then mdoz, because they would actually accept people on a weekly basis. rather then months/years later.

Why do you think they would accept people on a weekly basis, they can't even update the dmoz data once every six months... Another thing: why do people think that dmoz is slow because their site is not listed after years? Maybe their site is just not good enough to get approved...
