My Site took a nose dive on Alexa yesterday

No idea what would cause this big of a drop in one day. Sundays/Mondays are usually my biggest days.

Any ideas? Should I be concerned. I have not changed the site at all.

Alexa is an estimate at best. Do not use it as a tool to monitor traffic. You should use a true analytics tool such as google analytics to monitor your traffic.

I noted quiet a bit of traffic yesterday and, in fact, yesterday was a rare day where I sent out a newsletter to over 11k members so I think Alexa fell asleep.

What merit does Alexa have then really? I have it in my browser bar and feel like a slave to it sometimes.

It has no REAL merit. Its a recording of sites people who HAVE the alexa toolbar installed, which is probably less than 1% of the population.

you can get 1 billion hits a day, and if not a single one has the toolbar installed, you're still will be ranked dead last.

Interesting. So the fact that I went on a boat trip this weekend caused my Alexa Rank to plummet.

pretty much i installed it and jumped 100k in ranks in a few days. it's useless

If you're looking for accurate 3rd party stats, look into quantcast.com. They offer a JS to place on your site to offer a direct measurement that doesn't rely on anyone having a toolbar installed.

If you get more backlinks that alexa sees. And more of your content indexed by google. Alexa rank jumps after.
