    My rounded corner module

This is what I came up with:

Jim's Rounded Corner Module for TheFloorPro.com

The CSS is in the HTML file and no special hacks were necessary to make it behave. The code is valid XHTML Strict and the CSS is 2 warnings shy of being valid (background-color: transparency is not valid I guess).

I used the large images I was told were "wrong" and "useless" and I used the tiny 5x5 background image and a narrower left side image (26x26 instead of 1415x26). I was able to add a "side bar" box and I tried it in all standard resolutions from 1600x1200 down to 640x480. It was tested in IE, FF and Opera. It has not been tested in the forum yet though.

The total file size is more than I would like, so I am still researching how to improve on that (which might mean more and smaller images for the top and bottom and more nested DIV's and CSS). But it works when I was told it wouldn't. Wrong and useless indeed. Pretty handsome, if you ask me.

You are welcome to the code, but not the images please. If anyone has a similar project, I would be happy to help -- not that I have all the answers, but I got a lot more experience than I had this morning. And I promise to read what you want and do my best to help you get it.

    Best R'gards,

    Jim

I was mistaken on the lack of CSS validation. The warnings are just that (like suggestions) and did not keep the CSS from validating. That was good news. It's great to finally have the module design I was looking for, but even better when it validates the XHTML and CSS.

I lallygagged a bit getting this module design in service, but I did finally get it done tonight. I spent time on a header tag issue and then tried to devise a plan to incorporate other header tags (I have H1 thru H4 at the moment). The module turned out very nice I think. I still have issues with validation of the vBadvanced pages, but those are with the code written by the vBa developer, not me. Mine, as I reported above, validates XHTML Strict and CSS.

Anyway, here's the first page I incorporated the new module on: Ceramic & Stone Tile Underlayments - TheFloorPro.com

I know that it is not the most important element of a web page. Certainly the reason we are all at this site is because we feel SEO is of prime importance. But I strive for a balance between good SEO practices, good code and the ease of use and visual enjoyment of my visitors and members. I hope that have accomplished that with this modification of a ready-made skin.

    R'gards,

    Jim

Why does that stand out so much on the corner? Also, "Tile Underlayment Products" sticking out past the colored part of your module looks kind of weird. It is like a table breaking out or something.

Having the module rounded looks nice, but in this case it looks out of place when everything else is squared. I think the page would look better if that one area was squared as well, just so it matched the rest of the modules.

Hmmm, I hadn't noticed it. It is very slight. I'll have to play around with it a bit to see what it is.

That is by design. I made it a bit more pronounced to make it obvious. It doesn't break the sides and if the margin is compared with the margins of the other modules, you'll see it is lined up.

The whole point was to make it stand out. It is supposed to look different from all the other modules. Of course, having obsessed on it for so long and finally having it done, my mind would be unwilling to see it as anything but an accomplishment for now. In a week or two or 4, I may feel differently -- maybe even agree with you. But for now, at least in my own eyes, it's very nice.

    Thanks for your comments.

Well, the newness wore off and I have to agree that it just looked too out of place. I ended up going back to a square cornered module, but I modified the original too so I could set it apart from the rest. It's title is an H2, where all the other module titles are H3s.

Jeez I hate it when I'm wrong.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I hope you agree that the new solution is much better.

    Same Page, Different Design
