Link Directory at vBSEO

What about creating a link directory at vbseo. Only vbseo licensed users may allowed to enter their url's and also the link creator can include stats so it will also be a showcase for vbseo.

If you plan to do this i'll have a second request about the Featured Site on Forumhome It may also pull random site from the link directory.

Frankly, you don't need it. If you use a signature it get's picked up. vBSEO doesn't have nofollow turned on.

Link directories are link farms and will ruin the reputations of both vbseo and your site.

Link directories are often considered link farms, it's true.

However, if this was done in line with a survey type form to fill out, eg. how many members, posts, threads.... how many moderators, forum topic, number of forums.... etc....etc. along with screenshot image.

Then a bio type page can be put together..... hardly a spammy link directory then is it?

Think of it as kinda like an interview of the forum owner.

Sounds like alot of work to police people on.

Very good idea, should be for customers only! Every member could then add their site to the correct category. This is done by vbullletin too: vbulletin link page.

An example of a link farm would be creating a site, with a static page, filled with links to other pages who also are filled with URL's to pages in that same group, so it's a form of spamming and abusing the system. A directory is more like an index of sites that are relevant to a category they have, in order to make it easy for people to find good and relevant websites.

DMOZ was around LONG before the term "link farm" even existed.

Reciprocal linking from disimilar interests is dead. You want links from sites like yours, or with terms that are similar to yours... and all the better if they are one way links.

Actually it doesn't matter how old dmoz or any other site is when we're talking rules. Google can't say 'ok dmoz can stay and this new site must go'. Sure natural contextual links between sites have more value, but it's still a good idea to add this. For example, it's interesting to have a directory where we can find other customers, maybe even in the same category to exchange links, use the linkback feature, write articles with contextual links etc.
