Question Inactive forum members deletion, do you guys do it

Just been looking over my member list. Something like over 3k of members not visited for over a year.
Is it worth killing off all these dead accounts and leaving those with one post or more.
In my mind, you have a lot of user names that might be better suited to new members trying to register.
A lot of link spam in user profiles
A lot of unwanted indexed pages

See what you guys think or do from time to time

The only members we prune are those with unconfirmed email accounts and zero posts (which under the UK Data Protection Act we have to)... but that alone frees up 1000+ usernames a month.
In time I might consider deleting spammers usernames.

As for inactive members I use the mod on vborg that moves anyone that hasn't logged on for 100 days to a new usergroup (so emails etc only go to active members). I Don't delete them though.

Wooster, while I have your attention. Thanks for one of the top anti spam mods. Check4Spam has been a life saver on my forum.
An install once and forget mod. Then watch how many it catches on a daily basis.
Top man and a brilliant mod.

I'm still in two minds about killing off inactive accounts. High member count looks good, but if those members profiles are adding nothing more than unwanted bloat to the forums and unwanted indexed pages, they cant be that good at the nd of the day.

I'm just thinking there might be more stuff flying in the way of google, if you kill them.

Cheers dude. In two minds whether or not to resurrect it on vborg. I have a much more advanced version running on my sites (my latest upgrade was added 4 weeks ago and has already autobanned 3312 spammers before they even try to post, with no mistakes - ones that before had to be sifted though and banned manually). Problem is spam filters only work if spammers don't get their hands on them and find the flaws. Think I might just give it to those that have emailed me (had quite a few since it was taken off vborg). That plugin is the whole reason we manage with only 8 moderators on a forum that gets upto 300k+ posts a month

In that case then, please consider adding me to the list of those that you might consider passing it on to.
Half the time I don't check the forum that the posts gets moved to. No one ever complains if a post gets caught in it.
    Certainly makes life easy
Moderation on auto pilot, my favorite kind of mod.
Even if you decide to sell the mod, let me know, its one of those essential mods that makes life easy.

I never delete users. they take up .0001k of space in a DB. it's not even worth the time to prune.

I believe it's good to prune inactive users. Excessive e-mail bouncing isn't seen as a good thing for e-mail providers and can cause trouble. I prune inactive users and registered users that haven't signed in for a few years.

The only users I have pruned are unconfirmed accounts with 0 posts who have not been active within 6 months. (I have not done it for a while tho.) Although it is something I will probably do in the next few months again to free up some usernames since I am over half a million members now.
