I usually close them around 1000 replies and start a 'part 2' thread. high reply counts have bad performance issues in vb.

I wondered about that... Bad performance on just that thread or bad performance for the forum as a whole?

about 2000 posts on our forum... but we had moved already.. our forum site has been invaded by malware. that is why.

I moderate on a webmaster forum and we tend to end a thread after it is dead for a few month's. Besides more then half those members are inactive or banned. (Yea this post wasn't really helpful)
