My PR dropped from 2 to 1 but traffic is up 30% so I am hardly complaining

No pr change to my forum home, but several of the forums have dropped in pr.
Is this an almost instantaneous thing or does it take a day or so to level out.

Honestly, I don't know what exactly a higher page rank does, I haven't noticed any higher positions in search results!

I've seen some changes on the newer blogs, but nothing on my older url's
it seems I always get hit late with those URL's

Saw a 1 point drop in an accompanying directory but my forum traffic has increased, so no complaints.

How do sites lose drop in PR? Is it because link partners stop linking to them and / or they add more links to their link pages?
