    Going Global

I was checking out my Google Analytics stats and I had a thought...why not go global?

I know nothings impossible...but how difficult would it be to get domains of .ru .it .uk .cn for my political site? Well, that might not be too difficult...but if someone types in my domain with let's say a (.it) it will bring the user to my Italian version vBulletin forum with the installed italian language hack. But, how exactly does that work? Should there be an index2.php file which the .it domain links to to display the site in a default Italian language?

I hope I'm not being confusing here...but do you get my drift?

Have 1 vBulletin forum which is connected to many domains which targets different countries. When the user clicks that particular domain, they access the web site with the language associated with the domain.

I figured out how to do it..Actually not that difficult.

Install the languages. Install a hack that will automatically choose the language to match the language of the browser.

I installed a couple of language packs to see how they work as I have never done it before. I noticed it translates most of the vBulletin terms to the language, but why not the posts/threads, etc??

The hardest problem is trying to moderate in other languages. I've played around with the idea of using multiple languages on my forum before, but gave up.

My goodness this was such a bad mistake. I wish I never thought up of this idea!

I spent 6 hours today restoring the database. I installed the unsupported languages as well and they conflicted with the English package. The site was default at English, but it also had some French, German, and Italian words mixed in. Turns out that some of the phrases were the same in different packages..causing random phrases to be displayed. Took me forever to figure that out!

But everythings fixed now and I only lost 6 hours out of my life. But hey, I got to learn more about phpMyAdmin and mySQL.
