    Facebook spiders

Is there something going on with facebook?

I thought the only time the facebook spiders hit a website was if a link was posted on a facebook page.

There are two different types of facebook spider
    Facebook share follower and facebookexternalhit/1.1

I have had an abundance of facebook spider hits all day. At a guess, in excess of 700 page hits
    http://www.thespainforum.com/misc.ph...&type=Facebook

I set up a new mod yesterday. Clicked on the facebook like button, which is part of that mod. I never signed into face book. After that it seemed like I had some kind of tracking cookie on my computer. The reason I say that, is I went to a hidden forum, posted my notes on my latest attempt at internet domination and the facebook spider even tried accessing that post.

Adding a new mod + sudden problem points at the mod itself. I would look into the code of the mod to see if it has any fb code ot ping, etc.

All I did was add was add an "addthis" button to all posts
AddThis - The #1 Bookmarking & Sharing Service

Surprisingly there have been a lot of tweets from guests and more than expected using the face book like button.
Not all the likes have happened through my testing

I had another of my brainwaves late the other night on the grounds of more people will hit a like or share button if its at the end of something they have just read, rather than going back to the top of the page to click a share button

I've been noticing the same exact things as described through the addthis button.

From what I could see, it adds some kind of tracking cookie into your browser
Parts that the normal person can not see were being visited by facebook
    I uninstalled it

I have reintegrated it onto my forums
It might have just been a glitch
Since adding it again, there has been no mass of face book spiders
If you look on their website, one of the options is to have a new beta tracker
More big brother watching you gaining information from your own hard earned traffic
Im getting a few back links since spending the time and finding how to add it and not make it look too out of place
