Danny Sullivan Highlights "Ocean of Garbage". Get Enlightended. NSFE

I was reading Danny Sullivan's blog and stumbled across his entry inquiring why Google Earth does not allow you to see the ocean of garbage.

I was aware of an issue with garbage being dumped into the ocean. But I'll admit this was the first time I had heard of the Great Garbage Patch or Ocean Gyre. :(

NSFE - Not Safe For Environment

This is so sad.

I still can't understand why people throw garbage out to streets and sea. Unfortunately it happens a lot in Turkey also :(

There are so many factors related to it, but it's really saddening. Puerto Rico has major trash issues. Part of it is due to government's lack of infrastructure and lagging behind in recycling programs, etc, and landfill management, but there is also an apparent lack of concern among many citizens contributing to the issue of trash covered streets, properties, beaches, and internal water ways. During my recent travels to Florida, I see that they take a drastically different approach. Most of the highway roadsides here are nicely landscaped and free from garbage. It's a refreshing change of scenery.

This was really sad to watch and read.

In MA it is big to recycle but the streets aren't as clean as you would think being so heavy into recycling. When I lived in AZ, they weren't as big on recycling but their streets were so clean. When you drove up the highway they always had people out cleaning the sides of the roads.

The whole thing with the 'throw away nation' is crazy. And come to find out all the problems that people actually have with plastics it makes you wonder why we still use so much.
