    Attract users from other region?

I am interested how do you guys manage to attract your member from other side of the world ... for an example ... a north america's forum, how do you promote/invite/attract people from Europe, Asia and etc???

I noticed my members are mostly from the regions and not everywhere else

    Cheers,
    -K

It will depend on the subject matter of your forum in most cases. If you don't have anything that interests users from other regions, then they most likely will not join.

    Hi Keith,

My forum is about deep sea fishing and i think almost everywhere in the world has people who loves fishing.

The hardest part is to show them that there is such a forum exists ...

Maybe advertising in their local cities might help?

or like hire some hotties to wear the super tight tees with the forum address on it?

Or.... maybe open up additional languages on your forums to allow content to be spidered in their native language (because thats likely what they'll use to search google)

    Rob,

That is a good idea but to maintain a forum with a foreign language with you dont know will be a tough job

Assuming the forum is in English but located in Asia ... How do you attract users from North America, Europe and etc?

Advertise in their local media? or just wait for the search engines to perform the "magic"?

All my international members have come from word of mouth and search engine referrals. I've never done any advertising.

    Likewise....

You will generally find you naturally get members from all areas who speak english. This will happen on it's own. You will however generally get more members from UK and USA. Others do follow... but it can be a waiting game. Encourage your foreign members to tell their friends... maybe make them moderators and treat bilingual ones like gold dust as they may in time give you the option of having a bilingual forum.

I should have added that the only language used, and allowed, on all of my sites is English. It's just too much trouble to support multiple languages.

My forum is regionally targetted towards an area of the US, so I don't really need to be searching for users overseas.

I have a lot of international members, they have also come from word of mouth and search engine referrals,

I also allow only English to be used on my site although some of my moderators/super moderators are European
