Another question for forum webmasters

What does everyone think about news feeds in forums? I was thinking of adding one to my forum for nfl news and having it in a seprerate nfl news forum so it didnt get mixed in with members posts.

it is a hack that allows you to create a member that posts news from an rss news feed.

would it promote activity, or take away from it?

It annoys most people from what I've found.

Make sure you have an Opt-Out hack installed, Kirby/Andreas released one that I use. It allows users to ignore forums that they don't want to show up in their New Posts/Today's Posts listings.

If it looks to be an annoyance to most, then I would simply not do it. I have posted a poll on my forum explaining it and will see what the members think as well. If its not overly accepted, I wont do it.

I have seen people use it where it posted the posts in the same area that the members posted in, and that annoyed me. I would definately have a seperate forum set up for it. maybe I could have it set up where members subscribed to the forum if they wanted to view it.

I do not like them. I find them annoying as well. In my opinion news belongs on the main page only. Leave the forum for real people creating their own content
