Advanced 404 Tracking Mod/Add-on

This is a little product i made to track where my 404's were coming from.

This ONLY works for vbseo-enabled sites, and which is why i'm releasing here instead of .org/etc.

This DOES require 1 file edit, misc.php, so be sure to read the read-me file and follow the instructions.

I haven't tested this elsewhere, so please report any bugs here in this thread.

Performance Notes:
  • Adds 1 query to 404 pages only. Normal site operations un-effected.
  • Logs like this can grow pretty large. it may be wise to manually truncate your four0four table from time to time. This is NOT built in.

Mods, if you move this, please keep a re-direct enabled as this link will be in the read-me.

Would this still work if we have set a 301 redirect in vBSEO in case of a 404 ?

no, this only works for the 'include custom script' option.

There's a lot of things that track that don't make sense.

Whats the user agent on it? bots sometimes do wierd things.

you can run from phpmyadmin,

Code:
truncate table four0four
add your prefix if you use one, ala vb_four0four

BE CAREFUL with truncate. there is no undo!!!

you'd be suprised!!

I racked up over 100k records in less than a month!

and because of this, i knew what they were trying to find, so i set up a custom redirect to the new source
